Why are you guys in places like Texas buying those crappy Mr. Buddy type heaters? You are better of buying a small gasoline powered inverter.

Heck, in pinch you could use your vehicle as an inverter. Just leave it running outside with a power inverter and a power cord running into your house.

A vehicle full of gas will run for several days. The small space heater wont draw much current.

Here is an inverter you can put in your car for these emergency situations. Buy a 100 Ft 14 Gauge outdoor power cable and a cheap 500 Watt space heater.

Most space heaters are around 1500 to 1750 watts. Is that the kind of heater you're suggesting?

As a bonus your vehicle will be clear of snow and ice when you need to leave in a hurry.

I've never seen a 500 watt heater. Not saying they don't exist just that I've never seen one for sale at any local hardware near me.

They do if they are rated for 1600 watts. Not all heaters are created equal.

Be sure it's a pure sine wave inverter. Don't get the "modified" type.

hopefully you can subsidize that with a fireplace and youll be good.

I literally just linked a heater that runs at 500 watts in this thread. You are trying to survive not walk around in your skibbies and watch Movies in your home theater system. Put the 500 Watt heater in your bedroom and shut the door.

hardly any and they come with oxygen sensors anyway. if they're running on the floor they'll shut off long before there is an issue with CO2

A larger 3500 watt inverter/generator is around 900 bucks...then you can power 2 heaters and get 10,000 BTUs of heat.

Plus you have to have it outside....and refill it often...and they're loud as fuck.

Or...one 300 dollar propane heater hooked to two 15lb propane tanks can run for over 7 full days on low setting, which is comparable to a space heater...but they can also be set on high (18,000 BTUs).

Not saying people shouldn't use one. It just need to be used in a ventilated area. Which lets heat escape as well. Seems counter productive. These things were designed for fish shanties and tents.

Crazy, i’ve run probably six or seven dozen 5 gallon propane tanks through my Mr. Heater Big buddy. Inside a truck, inside a cabin and inside my garage. I never noticed how many times I’ve died. Thankfully i’ve Taken Care of my car’s exhaust leak though. I was starting to get sleepy at Stop Lights.

no it doesnt. it is rated for indoor use. well it may give off minute amounts, but they are rated for indoor use

Nice idea and thank you for the advice and concern however, unlike many Europeans we Texans do not live in an 650 square foot hovel.

So many of us live in a 4000 square foot and larger mcmansions with 3 stories.

My "hovel" would need to run all 5 of our SUVs and still that would only warm the theater room... what do I do about the other rooms and the pool house?
