Anonymous Coward User ID: 77316176 Albania 02/16/2021 02:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Texas produces more electricity than it consumes and maintains a buffer referred to as the “state’s reserve margin.” This margin ensures that we should never have to suffer from rolling blackouts like California. Quoting: TerraForms Then why are so millions of Texans without power right now? Why are we dealing with rolling blackouts? The answer is all-too-familiar: our relationship with the federal government. In anticipation of this unprecedented power demand, Texas could have maxed out power generation. However, we couldn’t. Like a lowly beggar, Texas had to first ask for permission from the federal government to generate enough power to keep our people warm. Why? Because cranking up our power plants to full production might violate federal pollution limits. There is a clear metaphor here. Texans were powerless because our elected officials ceded authority to a slow-moving, uncaring gaggle of federal bureaucrats. TEXIT means that we never have to ask permission to do what’s best for our people. When you are contacting your elected officials to demand a vote on TEXIT, remember that there are real consequences to us staying in the union. Right now, someone is suffering because of their indecision or opposition. That someone might be you, your family, or your neighbors. [link to tnm.me (secure)] Sounds more like your own retarded elected GOP officials made the call than it had to do with the FEDS. It literally sounds like Biden had absolutely nothing to do with it. |

Quoting: BIG.BILL You can generate all you want, but you need an intact circuit first. - - - - - - There are few lines down. Demand overwhelmed the system and substations blew along with several levels of transformers. Yes there are some lines down but the bigger issue was sections sucking so much power the connections between grid K and central supply couldn’t handle it. The second issue was dumb ass Texas went green with several sections wind solar when those got frozen and covered in snow it needed power from other sections the connections to suddenly run 60 percent couldn’t handle it and pop. It was a cascade as they tried to divert substations and meet demand. Seeker 2 |

Go ahead, TEXTIT. You'll find out the Union benefits you far more than a simple phone call asking for permission to generate power. If you'd have done your diligence, that permission would have already been there when you need it. |

Quoting: BIG.BILL You can generate all you want, but you need an intact circuit first. - - - - - - That doesn't explain them cyclically turning it on and off on selective regions. I don't understand the system these companies have in place for buying/transferring power around. Some of the data makes it look like there was some extreme price gouging going on. Smaller companies/co-ops maybe couldn't or didn't want to submit to such and so cycled to try and bring their own costs down. The price for the customers is typically fixed, but it seems for transfers of power between companies it's on a bid/ask system and maxed out at some obscene numbers. There may be other motives at play as well of course, but from the little I've seen this is at least happening in some cases. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79741836 United States 02/16/2021 03:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in a MAJOR Tx city....we have had no electricity in my neighborhood since Sunday night. Our power lines are underground so it is not an issue of "downed power lines". It is not a rolling power outage either as there has been NO POWER!! My living area is 49 degrees and my bedroom is 43 degrees. We are existing with 3 layers of clothes and covered in blankets. This is unacceptable in 2020!!!!! I am not old, but I worry about those old, infirm or dependent on electricity to survive. I suspect there will be some who don't survive. |

WTF??? I assumed their outages were caused by ice breaking tree limbs over the power lines, but if it wasn't that, then something is really fucked up. Wind powered elec is just not reliable.
