There are engines of all sorts. Literally hundreds of them. Including some that can be crafted on your own backyard(research wood gas). The internal combustion engine concept is outdated for decades now. But the oil companies got so big, that the whole economy circles around them, making it very, very hard to be dismantled. Money talks.
