So far so good here right now.

Yes, it's freezing rain but no, it's not staying frozen. The temp is starting to drop, so we'll see what happens as it progresses.

I was in New England for that as a kid.

I think we missed two weeks of school.

People came from miles around to sled and ski down the hill on our street and walk back to the top.

Was supposed to be flying out of Dulles for Phoenix ... flight cancelled, a minor thing of 12" of snow on the ground over the previous 3 hours with another 30" on the way over the next 12 hours ... DAMN I thought to myself - almost made it out of Dodge!!

Versus being stuck in DC FOR DAYS I decide to drive back to Lexington VA, me, one state patrol car, and about 25 plows were the only things I saw on the way back south and then across Afton Mtn (that was a MESS - only reason I got across was because I followed a DOUBLE gang plow group (2 sets of 3 plows) up and over the mountain) and then down the valley. EVERYTHING was then shut down along I-81 for 2 days - back at my parents in Ohio it was worse, they had to bring in Airport Runway Snow Blowers from Wright Patt to open up the expressways and main roads!! Parents had 12' drifts in places - actual snowfall was over 50".
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77374864

That would have been quite a drive! I was excited over our 20 mile drive grandpa took us on to have supper in town! LOL We were in central Illinois. I don't know if our forecast wasn't bad or we just didn't know how hard and fast it was going to hit, but the lights were already flickering by the time we were done eating.

We took a vacation to Phoenix that next winter. The locals would get really excited when they would find out where we were from and wanted to hear about our experience.

A beautiful, sunny 83 here is SWFL...

I just moved back North after living in the South for 20 years, I did enjoy the summer weather but missed having the 4 seasons.

The first thaw of Spring, everyone runs out to wash their cars & unpack their summer wardrobe...every moment of Summer is enjoyed thoroughly because we know it won't last...The crisp air of Autumn & the beautiful fall colors, hayrides & cider mills...and the White Christmas, the cuddling inside with a hot meal watching the snow fall, skiing & sledding....

To each his own, I suppose....

In what is known as the bullseye center of this thing south of the Bluegrass.... Not sure how I feel right now. Don't have any heat if I lose my power. I have lots of blankets so I guess I will survive. 3/4 tank of gas but I do not think I will be able to get in it if it ices as it ices the doors shut, much less the handles. And my outside door handles will break if they ice and you try to open them. I'm inside for the duration. I expect.... weather says freezing rain tonight until sometimes tomorrow afternoon sometimes.

This must be a front or something because I'm getting a light drizzle, very light and it's not the coldest rain I've been in in Kentucky here. Been outside and it's nice for Kentucky winter weather, usual stuff. Kentucky's had a real mild winter this year so far IMO. No wind to speak of, nothing yet. Suppose to start after midnight here.

Right now, mushy ground that will freeze in this next week and crunch if you walk on it. My front door ramp will turn into a slide that is hard to come up without ice picks but the dogs climb it no problem after they potty. LOL And I expect all the doors and car to have a layer of ice that either the sun melts when it comes out for the one day this next week they are saying it's peeking out a short time, or I'm iced inside my house and I'm not leaving for around 8-9 days or so. That's if I get hit by this ice storm that I'm suppose to be in the bullseye of. I'm still waiting..... south central KY micro-climate. Seems KY has "micro-climates" and the state varies in how weather happens. Like SF is a micro-climate in CA and the surrounding areas are different weather temps and patterns. It's very interesting how that works to me. But it's another subject for another day.

Nothing yet. Nothing. Just wet with small puddles that will freeze into ice for a week or two. Dangerous to get out. Hope no one loses power. Me included. LOL

KY here also. Just south of Louisville. Right now temp says 28 but it is raining. As I am in my office with a large window facing the street I can see the roads are still just wet and easily passible. I am concerned we will get a flash freeze and turn all the rain that just fell on everything into a sheet of ice.

Just put plastic sheeting or a yard trash bag over your doors and windows. I always put something on the corners to hold it down. When the storm is over, just pull off the ice.

But, in a pinch, you could use something like this in the event of no power, no heat.

Stay safe!

Something quite new in Southeast Texas. We already received 4 inches of snow a couple weeks ago, and that was very unusual. To have this again, in the same year, is really, really unusual.

They see we could see a 1/2 inch of ice by morning! Got the genny ready to go just in case.

Just wrapped my hose bibs and checked the coolant in the cars.

Who out there in glp land is getting hammered by this lastest winter storm doom?

I'm in KY, right on the impact zone of what the forecasters and media are calling an emergency situation. We are expected up to 1" of ice thru tomorrow afternoon.
Ppl around here have been in a state of near panic for the last 2 days in preparation for this "event" that was scheduled to kick in significantly last night. Well.....this morning we have nothing outside but a bit of sprinkles thru the early morning hours with temps above freezing (so far). The radar is showing a clearing but yet travel restrictions are planned for this afternoon and the alerts are still going out. We have been told that power outage are expected, and will last for several days. On top of that, the temps are supposed to drop down to near 0 by Sunday. It's scaring the old people and causing panic buying everywhere!

So, my question is....
Who is getting hit by this "monster" winter storm because it's not us (so far)?

Oh and it's -17C here (Windchill down to -25C) with heavy winds and some ice crystals in the air making for a lovely light pillar show as a sign of the oncoming apocalypse.

We have up to two feet of snow forecast for North east Texas.

One model says 6-10 inches and the other 16-23 inches. Low temp of 5 degrees and a high in the fucking teens.

Going to be a lot of business for plumbers, and firemen.

Either way, I'm glad I still have my old snowmobile and kept in in running order, these parts have never seen a snowplow.

Something quite new in Southeast Texas. We already received 4 inches of snow a couple weeks ago, and that was very unusual. To have this again, in the same year, is really, really unusual.

Cowboy stadium is in North Texas (Dallas), up near Oklahoma, about 6 hours north of me. I am near the Gulf Coast.

Don't think you realize just how big Texas is.
