Just one run, but they have been fairly consistent for days. Will be interesting to see what happens, if anything. [imgur] [link to imgur.com (secure)] Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77437130 Does that say 13 inches of snow for the DFW area?!? I hope I am reading that wrong! Yes, but it will change i'm sure and it's just one model. Now, if today was Saturday or Sunday then i would be more inclined to believe it. At this point it's just a nightmare, or dream depending on how you view it lol. I'm in the dark purple area of Arkansas. Grew up in Ohio so bring it on! It will cripple the state though if it happens. I'm in Fort Worth. No one here knows how to drive in the white stuff. |

Quoting: SugarSand Lived and loved living in Bowling Green, Kentucky for a few years. Awesome place. Also, the Franklin, KY drive-in theater. Awesome. But y'all are funny bout snow. They say stuff like "but we don't have the plows" ... On Sunday, here in Southern NJ where the ocean mostly moderates the snowfall, we got a surprise 6 inches when we expected rain ... no plows, no salt. I still had to go out. I always have to go out. It's ok to drive in the snow. You just have to go slow. Nothing bad will happen, as long as you go slow. Even in my shitty little kia ... 6 inches of unexpected, unplowed snow is manageable for an old lady in a shitty kia ... you'll be fine. I understand the excitement, though. If someone told me there was a bunch of tornadoes headed my way I'd freak, but that was a normal occurrence in KY. I don't know why someone would say we didn't have the plows... we got a shit ton. The difference in New Jersey and Kentucky is that Kentucky has hills. If you get over where I live in Eastern Kentucky you got mountains. Try driving down a steep ass mountain with it covered in snow and ice... if you go off the road you are fucked. Nothing puts the fear of God and snow into you like hurdling to your death over the side of a several hundred foot cliff. Bowling Green is flatter than the Eastern half... but it has its share of dangers. In flat areas like New Jersey... that ain't shit when it shows. I'd have a fucking ball driving there in snow. I loved the snow on the road in Michigan when I was there. Here in Kentucky... fuck that. I don't wanna flip, flop, and crash to my death down the side of a mountain. That is the difference. Your neighbors in WV have it down. Never any doom. I lived there on both ends of my Kentucky time. Lived in Kanawha, Lewis and Harris County for a total of like 10 years. The school bus had chains on the tires and would slide as it stopped at our place lol. The MOST mountainous counties hardly had school because the roads were unpassable, but it was manageable. When the shit hits the fan and the end is just nigh, will you cry out to Heaven? Will you lie down and die? Not me, my dear one - THIS IS MY SACRED LIFE - to no one nor no thing I'll surrender. For how does one know where when dead she will go, or if sweet Mother Earth he'll remember? - Sug |

West Virginia... I got family that live over there. Same old same old. Those pill snorting rednecks wreck all the friggin time. Kentucky takes better care of their roads than they do. Where did they put chains on the tires? I know it's not Kentucky... It's illegal here. We don't get the snows required to use them. Our snow events are typically over in a day or two. you need a hell of a snow for chains to work and not destroy the road. Have you ever drove up a straight bluff on a county road in Kentucky? Doesn't matter if it is an inch of snow or a foot. It's all the same. If it's ice... hang that up. Not happening. I have an can drive on snow here. Don't like it. Not worth the risk if you can avoid it. _______________________ |

Quoting: Roadkill Bill I'm in KY, right on the impact zone of what the forecasters and media are calling an emergency situation. We are expected up to 1" of ice thru tomorrow afternoon. Ppl around here have been in a state of near panic for the last 2 days in preparation for this "event" that was scheduled to kick in significantly last night. Well.....this morning we have nothing outside but a bit of sprinkles thru the early morning hours with temps above freezing (so far). The radar is showing a clearing but yet travel restrictions are planned for this afternoon and the alerts are still going out. We have been told that power outage are expected, and will last for several days. On top of that, the temps are supposed to drop down to near 0 by Sunday. It's scaring the old people and causing panic buying everywhere! So, my question is.... Who is getting hit by this "monster" winter storm because it's not us (so far)? Way down in Florida. I hope it makes it here. I'm wearing shorts today and have my AC running. I want cold weather! |
