Very uncomfy. If any foreign minister begins to defend to the death a "peace conference," you can be sure his government has already placed its orders for new battleships and aeroplanes. |

User ID: 65122114 United States 02/12/2021 12:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Who out there in glp land is getting hammered by this lastest winter storm doom? Quoting: Roadkill Bill I'm in KY, right on the impact zone of what the forecasters and media are calling an emergency situation. We are expected up to 1" of ice thru tomorrow afternoon. Ppl around here have been in a state of near panic for the last 2 days in preparation for this "event" that was scheduled to kick in significantly last night. Well.....this morning we have nothing outside but a bit of sprinkles thru the early morning hours with temps above freezing (so far). The radar is showing a clearing but yet travel restrictions are planned for this afternoon and the alerts are still going out. We have been told that power outage are expected, and will last for several days. On top of that, the temps are supposed to drop down to near 0 by Sunday. It's scaring the old people and causing panic buying everywhere! So, my question is.... Who is getting hit by this "monster" winter storm because it's not us (so far)? It is fricken cold over here in North Texas. It is in the upper 20F's right now outside. In the living room last I checked about an hour or so ago it is 35F. Yay... Your pipes are toast come tuesday Thanks for laughing at my misfortunes, AC. I will be sure to leave be at your greatest hour of need. They presented data from two sources ; the national weather service and the the so called "european model". Looking over this precipitation forecast and taking into consideration 1 inch of rain equals 10-15 inches of snow at 15 degrees, based on my own experience i'd say they are right IF it does get as cold as expected. [link to weather.rap.ucar.edu] DFW is an ice rink this morning. Accidents everywhere. And our updated forecast is indeed for 3 to 6 inches of snow Sunday into Monday. Glad we are missing out on all the ice here in Wichita. Just snow so far. Downgraded Friday-Saturday to trace to an 1" and now have 7-10" for Sunday-Monday and another 1-3" for Tuesday-Wednesday. The cold is awful. Still forecasting -32 wind chill for Monday morning. It is currently 33*F in the house. I am going to go venture into town for a while to do some shopping. I do not give a crap about possibly getting into a wreck right now. I would like to experience some heat for a while and to get out of this ice cold fricken house too. Today or early tomorrow will be the time to get your shopping done, grab your beer and smokes. It may be a few days before it will be safe to travel the roads again in North Texas. |

At any rate I know I am making light of it, but here in Texas this shit is pipe busting and life threatening. Most of these people will be really fucked if the power goes off, and it does every time the winds blows. It would be nice to experience some warmth that does not involve me watching movies on my main computer while under my covers for the next some days straight. Hah! Man... it has been about a decade since North Texas last got this cold and got any significant amounts of any ice and/or snow too. Turn on your faucets and keep the water flowing has been a proven effective measure to keep the water from easily freezing in your pipes. However, with the extreme cold that is heading our way here in North Texas this seems to be a futile effect. I would suggest everyone turn off their water mains for the coming days, but that would not account for the water that is still in your pipes. So I figure this is a no-go idea. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77806767 It is amazing the traction you actually have on snowpacked roads when it is really cold. A little sand and its no different than concrete. The odds are the truckers who crashed in Ft Worth drive all over the north. NO ONE can drive on black ice when they come upon it suddenly at normal speeds. Zero traction both for stopping or turning, and in the express lane where they were, there is nowhere to go to steer around stopped cars.. |

I sweated so much on a ceaseless basis I was constantly thirsty and within minutes of taking a nice cool shower and properly bathing too I started to smell as though I never showered in the first place. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72887172 A strip of insulation and duct tape, unless you have a blanket heater or heat trace to wrap it up with. Leave the cabinets open so the house heat will enter it easier as well. on the outside of the house tape a bucket or something over it and stuff with insulation or blanket. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72887172 Turn you heat as high as you can get in your house and open the cabinet doors. Let the faucets drip Drip hot water from all your pipes in the house. This will keep the water moving along. And of course the hotter you can stand the temps in the house the better. My pipes are built into the insulated flooring. I know at zero degrees this may be compromised somewhat, but I think with proper precautions we will make it through. |
