An AP/NORC poll says we're losing confidence in democracy. DUH. But

The core elements of democratic government, including free and fair elections and the peaceful transfer of power, were put to a dire test by the baseless [emphasis added] claims of election fraud advanced by former President Donald Trump.

Baseless claims. Baseless. Who in the sky blue fuck issues the playbook? There can be allegations (implying the jury is still out), there can be unfounded allegations (genuine lunatic fringe stuff: space aliens altered the vote counts), and there can be allegations that have been uniformly and inexplicably ignored ("lack of standing").

No honest person could deny a strong scent of fishiness attached itself to the proceedings, probably first becoming obvious when vote-counting was halted in key states (when things were looking grim for Team Bidet and additional "fortifications" were required). And following that, the strategy seems to have been "continue the bluff and try not to blink."

My confidence in the democratic process and specifically in our government's ability to hold an election has greatly diminished. But it's not because of Trump's baseless claims.
