Can anyone relate to me? I have anxiety of the thought of seeing people
Seems like more people are getting vaccinated. I've seen posts from people that got their 2nd dose. So it's safe to say that we're in the home stretch. Things are gonna slowly open.

You know how they say social media sites like FB, IG, and Twitter have decreased people's social skills? For instance when you see people go out, often times people at the dinner table are just looking at their phones. They already were starting to lose the skills of interacting face to face. People have already started to transition to the screen, internet based communication.

But now with the Coronavirus, it made things much worse than the phone could ever do. Having social media on my phone did make it less natural for me to communicate face to face. I'd always need my phone as a security.

But the Coronavirus blows that away. Not only do we have our phones, but we've been told to social distance. Wear a mask whenever you go out. Often times, people would stay locked in their homes.

So imagine being locked in, wearing masks, and doing most of your communication on your phone. It's going to be hard to be able to meet people face to face now, especially without a mask. 1. We're used to staying away 2. We're used to having a mask and 3. Now we lack the social skills.

So while I was scared like heck with the virus, now I'm also scared to get back out in the world again when things open up. I've lost my socialization skills. It doesn't feel comfortable for me anymore. Just imagine the last year, I almost cried anytime someone got near me. I'm just not used to being normal around people anymore.

There are times I sit home and cry. But then other times I don't know if I can leave. It's sorta like that movie where the guy went to jail but then killed himself once he got out, because he got used to jail. I'm actually nervous to go back to normal. I don't know it anymore.

It took a long time to get used to wearing masks, a few months, so it might take a few months to feel normal about normal again. Don’t be hard on yourself and just do baby steps if you need to,

We all hate crowds. Just don’t look at anyone. Go out, do what needs to be done, then get back home.

We get ready, then the excitement of shopping goes from 100%, down to 20% maybe. The masks just make nothing worth going out for.

Honestly I like the slower pace of life now. And people not packed together like sardines. I don’t want to go back to how it was. Don’t like the masks though. That is what I would like to stop. Or at least it be voluntary.

Yeah pretty much. But I make myself go out. I made myself go to the mall the other day after not going there for about a year. It was in the middle of the week and not crowded. Wanted to feel something normal. It was pretty nice and I had something to eat at the food court. Everything is very clean now which is nice. If I was to go back I would go when it first opened when there are even less people. And of course not on a weekend. They had some good sales. Good place to walk also when it’s bad weather outside.

Override the effects of isolation(anxiety, loss of social skills) with your mind. You can do this. Just play a game of pretend. But truly believe it. Just pretend none of it ever happened. Pretend you are the most confident and personable person around.
Negativity wants you to submit to the cause of your anxiety. It even feels right to, as the effect is natural to the cause. But you have to ignore this. Youre in control.

Workout dude if there is a park near you go there and walk and be around others at a safe distance. Usually people don’t have to wear masks outside so you can see people’s faces and even say hello. That might be a start for you.

You seem to have overwhelming anxiety issues that would present themselves in any and all situations.

try to address that and all else will fall into place itself.

It is a phobia that you are afflicted with. It is agoraphobia. It is the fear of being out of your safe environment and interaction with others without a clear path of escape. There is plenty of literature out there on it. Read what others have had to say on this subject. They may have something relevant or of interest to you.

Good luck!

Re: Can anyone relate to me? I have anxiety of the thought of seeing people
Social anxiety is affecting people more now than ever before. There are definitely many people out there who can relate.

One powerful thing you can do when interacting with individuals is, once you start feeling awkward, just tell them you are going through some social anxiety, ask them to forgive your awkwardness, and move on, no matter how weird you are feeling or acting.

For some reason, acknowledging it will allow you to forget about it. As time goes on and you put yourself out there, it will get easier and easier.

Most people will be very forgiving, and many will relate to the experience and feel more comfortable around you for it.

Totally know where you're coming from WD. I have the same only probably worse. In fact I actually don't ever want to have anything to do with anyone, except a few close people that I've known and trusted for many decades.
