Very obvious that you are avoiding the question about the observer height for your Salton Sea canoe because you don't know. And trying to cover that up by immediately resorting to insults. How sad.

It's CURIOUS how you NEVER...

ACTUALLY do the MATH!!!

I do NOT even need a CALCULATOR...

How HUMILIATING is THAT?

LOL

:)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75203286

I can't do the math for YOUR Salton Sea example when YOU won't say what the observer height is. You do realize your favorite 8" per mile squared only applies when looking from zero feet, right? Did your observer have his eyes on the ground? Still waiting for YOU to say what the observer height was.
 Quoting: LHP598

You guys are MAJOR league A33H01ES...

I will NEVER provide you ANY assistance WHATSOEVER.

Let's see...

We have ALREADY established that you are a LIAR.

We have ALREADY established that you are a M0R0N.

Now we can CLEARLY see that you are ALSO CLUELESS.

The 8 inches per mile squared deals with the PURPORTED PHYSICAL MODEL.

So... THAT does NOT go away... Under ANY circumstances...

We can ALSO add that you are DISINGENUOUS.

You NEED to make your OWN sandwichs...

NO ONE on the FLAT EARTH viewpoint is going to do your work for you...

It is SO much more fun watching you FREAK!!!

Need MORE input! Need MORE input!

So... SHOW US exactly how you are going to explain away...

The REALITY that OAHU is visible from KAUAI, at a minimum distance of 90 miles.

WAVING YOUR ARMS!!! screaming whatever HALF-THOUGHT goes thru your LITTLE POINTED head does NOT COUNT.

You will NEVER be a FOOT LONG.

We ALL anxiously await your MATH SOLUTION.

:)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75203286

I still haven't lied about anything. 8" inches per miles squared still only applies to a view from zero feet. It will never show you how much should be hidden with a different observer height. That you don't understand that fact is hilarious. That you are avoiding answering what the observer height is for YOUR Salton Sea example makes it apparent that you don't know. That you immediately resort to insults on nearly every post makes it clear you have no real argument. Thanks for the humor!

Re: The Earth is a Sphere!

Which part? The part where it was pointed out that the observer height and a little refraction makes it possible and that was confirmed by the photographer himself? Or the part where flatties continually showed they didn't understand how observer height affects observable distance by repeatedly posting numbers based on 8" per mile squared?
 Quoting: LHP598

The observer height does not make that possible. If you were to test the variables with the curvature formula calculator, you would see that for yourself. Now it comes down to whether or not refraction was involved. And I can assure you that it was NOT, simply because refraction does not work to make visible things hidden. It only magnifies and distorts THOSE THINGS THAT ARE ALREADY IN THE LINE OF SIGHT. If the photographer mistakenly thought that, whose fault is that? Therefore, it is clear that the photograph proves flat earth.

p.s.-I haven’t seen a single flat earther post numbers based on 8 miles squared, only bring up that formula.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77420097

Not my fault you misunderstand refraction.
 Quoting: LHP598

Please do not speak to me condescendingly thinking that you comprehend refraction better than I do. You are flustered that you lost the argument, so you offer a terse, sordid one-liner rather than an explanation. I can assure you that refraction does not make invisible things visible, but only enlarges and otherwise distorts things already within the line of sight.

Flat earth has blown you out of the water on this one.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77420097

That you don't understand how refraction can raise the apparent view of distant objects making the horizon farther is your problem, not mine.

Not flustered at all. Projecting much?

Re: The Earth is a Sphere!
Say you are living in North Carolina, USA and you see on the news a monster hurricane has formed 300 miles east of Africa. Supercell cloud tops can easily reach 60,000 feet, twice the height of Mt. Everest.
Why do I have to wait for the edge of it to get to the southern coast of South Carolina before I even see the very top of the storm only? This is the same thing with all of those ships disappearing beyond the horizon except in reverse. If the earth was flat, you should have no problem seeing a mega storm the size of Texas near the Bahamas.
And of course, if you spot a hurricane, you will see the top of the hurricane first. Then as time goes by as it moves toward you you will see more and more of the storm.

Refraction can raise the apparent view of distant objects only when those objects are within the original line of sight. Nothing changes that. Therefore, if anything, it is you who seems to have the problem with comprehension. And no, I certainly haven’t projected here. I’m cold and still as an anvil.

Give me the observer height for YOUR example and I can show the math. Can't give math with a missing variable. 8" per mile squared only shows the amount hidden qhen the observer is at zero feet with their head on the ground. Maybe that is how you look at the world but that is not the case for most people.

He is just making the point that the line of site is much farther if the view is not from ground level. While this is true, there are curvature calculators that can account for the observer height an tell how much should be obscured at a certain distance.

NO he is NOT.

He is TRYING to change REALITY.

He is a 100% CERTIFIED...

 Quoting: conservator

Maybe with the right telescope or zoom lens, you can see the storm earlier.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77420097

Light refract in a medium, dont waste your time with these morons. I have a degree in Physics and Pure Math. This is a non issue...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79856448

You can see the top of the storm first when it crosses the horizon line; the rest is hidden beyond the curvature. No light issues if you can see the top, right? Then as time goes by you start to see the darkness of the rest of the storm that was hidden beyond the horizon of the beautiful curved earth!
John 8:49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.
8:50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
8:51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

SphereOIDs make up MORE fictional characters than a CHILD's fairy tale.

ALL of the impartial observers that pop in are confirming it.

Help us LHP598, you are our ONLY hope.

Unzip your pants and WHIP THE MATH out.

OR... Are you MATHLESS?

Again with the LOL!!!

Give me the observer height for YOUR example and I can show the math. Can't give math with a missing variable. 8" per mile squared only shows the amount hidden qhen the observer is at zero feet with their head on the ground. Maybe that is how you look at the world but that is not the case for most people.
Thanks for the humor!

No, the rest is not hidden behind the curvature. It is hidden due to the laws of perspective and an optical illusion whereby the lowest part of any object in the horizon SEEMS to sink below it. In reality, with a telescope or zoom lens, it is possible to see the figure in its entirety, given the correct atmospheric conditions...
