Ginger as you know is a splendid booster for helping maintain your immune system and your health. It also has antiviral properties itself. Raise the bed a bit and plant out broken up pieces from the store (make sure it's alive still). An inch or so deep will do. Needs good drainage, can stand a dry period, but don't get it too wet. Most important: keep it covered well with mulch. I use grass clippings. Nothing else to make it grow. The mulch will, among other things, encourage earthworms, which will displace nematodes. Nematodes are a problem for ginger. Don't harvest it all at once, just as you need it. Always leave some pieces in the ground to grow on. Before Winter, when the stalks start to die back, chop them all off and lay on top, then more grass mulch or straw to keep it covered. You can still dig up pieces during winter, since it will sit there doing nothing until Spring, when it grows again. You can do the same thing with turmeric, which is a close relation. Galangal will work this way too. I gave up on the galangal, because I never used it. It will be permanent production once it's going. My climate here is high rainfall (mostly) and temperate to subtropical. |

This is what it literally says: "Conclusions: The anticancer potential of ginger is well documented and its functional ingredients like gingerols, shogaol, and paradols are the valuable ingredients which can prevent various cancers. This review concludes to favor ginger but some ambiguities necessitate further research before claiming its efficacy." The main culprit could be lack of air moisture. You need a well drained soil and water slightly but constat humidity in the air. so basically only a greenhouse would work if you arent in the right environment. Also season must be very long like from February to end of December. |

A ginger salad (actually galangal). I don't know why, but it was so good. I will try this. To learn who rules over you, find out who you are not allowed to criticize. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75101417 Too much water, IMHO. Did you ask for some advice anywhere? Ten years of this seems a serious waste of time to me. its cheap at store and gardening is my side hobby. i got north texas weather so its dry mostly. i got tumeric to grow for 3 years then a drought hit and it didnt recover. i like low maintenance plants but i do try to plant in better zones,i got a creek bank but its shaded. i suspect nematodes also. |

It takes 8-10 months to reach full maturity. I'm not in a tropical area and grew it a couple years ago. For the yield I got, I probably won't grow it again. |

Also season must be very long like from February to end of December. I have grown ginger and turmeric in a polytunnel last year. Well drained soil high in nutrients, not too moist but watered regularly and the yield was next to nothing. I agree on the length of season, it really takes it’s time when you are not in a privileged climate. |
