Two Oakland Park women in their 60s fell victim to the same attacker — and only one of the women survived, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Antonino Santos Romano, 28, is accused of beating 63-year-old Maria Ouveryney, who was feeding feral cats behind a McDonald’s, and stealing her purse and car on Jan. 17. The Sheriff’s Office added more charges Monday against Romano, identifying him as the suspect in the killing of 60-year-old Iliane Alzenord in Oakland Park earlier that day.

Scant pieces of information released from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, as well a traffic court record, detail the crimes involving the two women. Alzenord rented a room out of her home to Romano’s girlfriend and Romano used to stay with her, said a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Police on Jan. 17 found Alzenord’s body when they were called to her Oakland Park home because of suspicious incident. When they arrived, they met Alzenord’s daughter, who was concerned that she was not able to reach her mom. Inside the home, they found Alzenord dead. Missing was Alzenord’s car.

That car was found near the McDonald’s in the 3000 block of Oakland Park Boulevard, where Romano is accused of severely beating 63-year-old Maria Ouveryney, who was feeding cats later on Jan. 17. The Sheriff’s Office at the time of the beating said Ouveryney’s purse and car were stolen in the attack.

What happened with Ouveryney’s car is not clear. However, Romano was stopped the next day, Jan. 18, for driving on I-95 without a license, court records show. He was jailed for about two days before bailing out of jail on a $25 bond on Jan. 20, records show.
