We, Deanna, Alessandra and Linda have created this GoFundMe on behalf of Maria Salete Ouverney.

Maria, a local beloved pet advocate from Oakland Park, FL is currently in the hospital and desperately needs our help. Maria was brutally beaten and robbed of her purse and car on January 18th while doing her daily feeding at one of the feral cat colonies she cares for. The severity of the attack left her with numerous facial, nasal, and optic fractures. She is currently on a morphine drip to help with the excruciating pain and will undergo surgery on Jan 23rd once the swelling has subsided.

Many in the community know Maria but for those who don’t, please allow me to describe what a remarkable individual she is. This 63 year old woman fits every definition of “selfless," and surpasses it daily. Her kindness radiates from her altruistic soul and is something we can all learn from. Maria has dedicated her life to stray, unwanted, abandoned and abused cats and kittens in her Oakland Park and Margate neighborhood. She started taking stray cats into her home to help them avoid euthanasia. This began her mission of feeding, trapping, and providing medical care, as well as fostering and finding forever homes for her four-legged friends.

Not only does Maria take others into consideration every day, but she has the strength and compassion to put their needs and problems ahead of her own. She makes the time for those in need and her love for animals and people less fortunate is endless and unconditional. From visiting and caring for various feral cat communities to going to food banks and delivering food to people in need, she devotes all of herself.

Maria makes a modest living doing housekeeping and reminds us to be better, and to care more for the voiceless and the less fortunate amongst us. She embodies the strength, and the capacity for empathy and compassion that we all have within us. She leaves a lasting impression.

For those who give their hearts to animals, to animal lovers, to rescuers, to pet parents and to everyone with sympathetic hearts, we implore you to help this extraordinary and worthy woman. She will have expensive medical bills and will need home care. She will not be able to work for a extended period of time. No amount is too little and together we can make a huge impact on her life.
