Do you currently have a gov backed mortgage? If you do, I wonder if you can still go into a forbearance for a year?
 Quoting: Max Powers

Yes, I actually have a USDA loan.

I will look into this. Thank you.
 Quoting: Zedakah

*facepalms* I just totally let out a sigh of relief when I saw this post.

My sister and her husband are almost 60. The hospital where her husband has worked for over 30 years in maintenance just laid him off - permanently. They just bought a house. Everything went through. So now they own a house they can't pay for and where is he going to find a job at almost 60 years of age? All that retirement he paid into? Gone. Just freaking gone.

My heart goes out to you and yours.
 Quoting: Eireann

Yeah, that's the kicker. It's not like I have been making minimum payments for 20 years on debt beyond my means. I JUST bought a house for the first time 2 years ago, partly because we were better off in the past 4 years than the previous 12 combined (before that). I was tired throwing money away to landlords that I'd never see a return on, so I bought a house at a very good price.

My suggestion for your sister's family would be to create some product and attempt to sell it. I will certainly be trying the same thing. Generate your own wealth instead of skimming it from another place. I know that's not always an option, but in these times you have to try everything.

Also, as another poster suggested, try to rent a room of the house out. I will certainly do that before foreclosing.

Re: How Many Are Close To A Breaking Point?
I know I am, my dad passed away last September, non covid death, and my mom has alzheimers, and he was her primary caregiver. Me and my siblings have been trying to take care of her at home, but she is getting worse, she actually snuck out of the house the other night and walked a few miles down the road in freezing weather. So now we are going to have to put her in a home which means she will be on a death clock with the covid situation. Add to that stress from work, and then having to deal with the usurper in the white house, I'm at wits end.
 Quoting: chuckles45

Sorry to hear about that. I had a family member go through Alzheimer's, and the disease is far worse for the family than the person. One thing that might help is to create a video from family video clips that act as a 'timeline' for your mom. Just have faces, names, and clips of people growing over. That way she can watch it as many times as possible, and it might actually help. The brain can still learn even with Alzheimer's - the problem is that it is usually dumping information faster than it is receiving it. So putting as much family/personal information as possible into a single video that can be replayed over and over will help slow the progression (watch the movie 50 first dates and look at the video he makes for her at the end).

I really don’t know why! I should be strong for my Wife! Since she is going through Chemotherapy and Breast Cancer! But I thought of killing my self today! I am 59 years old , and unemployed! Nobody wants to hire a older person! I just feel so inadequate! I will do everything thing I can do for Her! But my life feels worth less! Love you all

Best thing to do... Get a very good tent. Find some nice land. And somehow encourage your partner. Just go camping. Give up your home. Don't fall into a debt trap.

Spend the money on yourselves instead. People have to focus now. Forget the rat race.

Just get good quality camping equipment. Keep yourself Clean. Encourage yourself when you have dark days of thought...

Try to adapt. The times are different now. Don't blame the Govenment. We must help our selves.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77411407

Obviously, that would be a last case resort, but it's one I have considered.

One of the problems is the simple difference between surviving and living.

I'm not ready to completely give up on living just yet, but I'm also not afraid to do what needs to be done in order to survive if the time comes.

Lighten up and like half the nation, stop paying your bills. Aint nothing no one going to do about it. Meanwhile, find jobs you can do at home, many. Should have done this a year ago, Its going to get worse before it gets better.

These liars cheaters and thieves, know the Americans aren't going away. Instead they will need to leave. <suck it up and get busy>

The problem is I do have a good job (university professor non-tenure) so I have to pretend to be a good government employee and cheer on the Covid restrictions.

Of course, now that my wife is unemployed, I might have to give her some chemistry lessons, since she will have plenty of free time to set up jobs from home.

Wow, I was starting to feel bad for withholding my pity, but now I'll double down and say you fucking deserve it.

Re: How Many Are Close To A Breaking Point?
I'm posting this because I know I am becoming ever closer to reaching my own breaking point. My wife just lost her job today, which means our refinance falls through, which means we won't get $400 a month lower payments, which means we can't afford our current payment.

I'm not making this thread for sympathy, because glp is certainly not the place for that.

I'm making this thread because if it's happening to me and my household, then I guarantee it is happening to many households nationwide, and also I do need to vent a little. More and more people are falling to the ranks of the unemployed every day thanks to Covid combined with Biden policies. The situation is not going to recover anytime soon. Covid restrictions are becoming more strict, and Biden policies are irrational and insane (just like Biden!).

If it's happening nationwide, then not everyone is intelligent/logical enough to peacefully deal with adapting to a new situation and make life changes. If this is the case, then we very well may reach a tipping point or breaking point where people are willing to do anything to provide for their family (especially things that were previously off-limits in a civil society).

If there is one thing that 2020 taught us, it is that liars, cheaters, and thieves win. And if that is the lesson other people who lose their incomes see, then there will be an increase in liars, cheaters, and thieves among the populace and a potential breakdown of civil society.

Disclaimer: I am not advocating violence nor is violence my mode of operandi in a breaking point. I am just making an observation of cause/effect relationships in society.
 Quoting: Zedakah

The elites have really broken you people. You thought you were normal. You thought you were protected. You thought you lived in a "free" country.

But if you only read the sentences that I made bold you will realize WHY things are this way, and why the assholes win.

It's because GOOD people don't give a shit.
They proved that with covid. Sorry OP, I don't give a shit about your situation just like you and the rest of the community didn't give a shit when I was almost homeless.

Now I"m the one sitting pretty not giving a DAMN.

Enjoy the SHOW.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79780865

No, OP, it means you are a bad judge of character and have an unrealistic view of your own self.

By definition, GOOD people DO give a shit. Not all of them have the ability to do anything about it, and damn few of them knew you needed help. Also - getting help is not always the best thing. How do you learn to survive if you never have to?

Stop rubbing your self with narcissist lotion and dare yourself to be the person you accuse others of not being.

Else you are a hypocrite and NO BETTER than anyone you look down upon.

I feel your pain. The wife and I managed to refinance the house a few months ago but now we are splitting up. Only been married a little over 2 years.

This last year has been hell and it's mainly because we are completely opposite with political views....and I've known her for 10 years now. Something about this year radicalized the left (which she is). I'm libertarian if anything at all. She hated the fact that I didn't vote for Biden to try and get Trump out of office. I did not vote at all and also told her if I had a gun to my head it would have been for trump before Biden.

Needles to say she got a super feminazi haircut, died it purple and well now here we are going through a divorce.

Everyone has been tested this past year so slightly different circumstances but I feel your pain the same way. Here's hoping things get better.

Well hold up. You're 59 years old and apparently have been and are, a pretty good husband. You know a lot of things by now and maybe you can take that knowledge and make it pay.
Maybe you can do handyman or "honeydo" type jobs.

Work your own hours and charge whatever they will pay. Don't give up. Colonel Sanders was 65 when he chicken franchised the planet.

Re: How Many Are Close To A Breaking Point?
These people love hiding their true intentions and ruling over the masses with a facade of legitimacy and fairness, but this past year has absolutely obliterated that notion. Every single institution is corrupt to the core, and though this has been obvious to us for years, the scale of the examples are becoming larger and larger.

March - COVID appears. Science and the medical profession are corrupt. The media and politicians play along with it. Both corrupt.
May - George Floyd breathes his last. Law enforcement is corrupt.
November - Biden wins. The government is corrupt and the election system is corrupt.
December - There isn't an investigation into the election fraud. The court system is corrupt.
January - Massive internet companies start censoring everyone. Big tech is corrupt. Hedge fund billionaires attempt to screw normal people. Finance is corrupt.

The church is corrupt. Historians are corrupt. Charities are corrupt. I can't think of a single large institution that isn't corrupt.

How long is this going to hold? At what point does every institution become so outwardly corrupt that everything just falls apart?

Well, as I just pointed out in my thread that was generally dismissed and ignored, the entire system is collapsing under the weight of two completely contradictory worldviews - neither of which appear to be true.

The entire world's system is falling apart, it was predicted to happen around now astrologically, by the forth turning, but the 4rd wave, by the killshot, etc, etc, etc, many many many people predicted it to happen sometime betwwo 2000-2030 and it's started.

Now is the time to RETRAIN if you have lost your job, Do NOT be beaten down by this, its a waiting game as the deep state gauge just how far they dare go before the masses turn on them. THEY are running out of time, you need to maximize yours!

STOP wasting time on the internet looking for sympathy and sorrow, we are ALL going through this. (not aimed at OP btw.)

Look on your local job sites and see just what kind of vacancies there are, perhaps you have no experience in those fields by you'd be suprised how many companies will hire someone that has an active interest. Loads of free lessons for everything on the net.

Have you registered with any employment agencies that can either find you work or hose that offer temp jobs?

Keep your phone charged and always leave a landline number in case your mobile ends. Always use your name and phone number as a CV's file name when you send to people. ie. Bill Gates CV Tel: 666 6666
Break long phone numbers up, psychologically, potential employers will favour them.

Look after you health, yeah sure we all get old and bits fall off, but get out for a walk, BE ACTIVE, get some sunshine.

Go through your email inboxes and anywhere you've had correspondence with previous employers or colleagues. Look them up, be honest, you'll be suprised.

If you are in risk of not making a mortgage, HIRE OUT ROOMS, or the whole thing and check out English language forums in Hong Kong or Chinese (English language) forums in your area.
Up to 3 million Hong Kongese are leaving the place, or certainly making plans to. Do they need somewhere to rent while they sorted out?

These are just ideas, but remember all ideas are that... now in the meantime RETRAIN, STAY HEALTHY, Keep your faith in GOD and if you haven't that, maybe time to look into it.

DO NOT live on more than one income can provide.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78732400

With the refinance, we would have been just fine on my income alone. This was my plan after purchasing the home for just one year to make sure we could afford it.

Also, you should have built up a savings of 3-6 months of expenses to deal with emergencies. It’s poor planning and greed.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78732400

I had 6 months saving from last year. Covid hit. We had to go through some of it. Now this has hit. We have 2-3 months to figure out how to fix this.

I always plan and prepare. I was hoping to get 1 years worth of savings up and running before Covid hit.

My point is sometimes it doesn't matter how much you plan and prepare. Shit can happen to anyone at anytime. The titanic was not unsinkable.

My takeaway to other people is sometimes now matter how much you prepare, you will never be ready for what is coming.

I think I lost my breaking point tonight on different reasons. I brought my wife up to speed on the situation that America is going down and my intention to fulfill my oath to our country and she did not agree. Meaning she did not agree that a fight to death is not warranted. She called me crazy.

I've been poor most of my life, mostly because I worked for the US government. LOL I totally understand things getting so tight that a loss of income can change a family's future. I'm hearing you, I'm sending good thoughts and prayers to you and although it may be small comfort, know that you are not alone.

Let me suggest something.

Perhaps this is a wake-up call. Perhaps it is time to pick up your family and move to your own homestead . . . something where you trade SWEAT for the bank's slave mortgage.

Find a decent community, in a small town, in a place that is religious and conservative. Even if you're a Satanist, trust me, a conservative/religious community is best.

Buy a small plot of land that has a small house or trailer. You move in and as a family, you begin to build something better. Plant your own vegetables, Get chickens. Build your own oven and learn to grind wheat and make bread. Buy things at the local flea markets and farmer's market. If you're really lucky, you may be able to find a homestead near a lake or river where you can fish.

I know this is a lot to process. It's a huge, life-changing move. But this is exactly what our American ancestors did. They escaped the tyranny of the rich, the bankers and the over-crowded cities and they went west to build a new life.

Think about turning this into an opportunity. Regain your composure and moral center and lead your family to freedom. Millions have done it. So can you.

This is what has happened to Americans. Basically they don't care what happens to their neighbor as long as they are okay. What they don't get...it will happen to them too. Just a matter of time.

Yep. When the father of a dying diabetic girl can no longer afford insulin thanks to the recent price hike, who do you think he will come after?

EVERYONE has a breaking point.

Some breaking points are more reasonable than others (in the eyes of the masses), but everyone has one.

And even though I just made up that example on the spot, I guarantee that at least one person in this country is going through the exact scenario I wrote above. The people in the pharmaceutical industry just better pray they are people like myself and not prone to violence when hitting their breaking point.

Re: How Many Are Close To A Breaking Point?
lol. we are in Covid. They cannot kick you out! You can pay water bills and electric bills. but Rent is no need to pay!

And im sure all Electric companies will not shut down the Power. until April 30th. Mine is like that.
but gas i think i have to pay. i dont see anything about that from Gas. only electric. Online you can see it. your online electric site.

They can't kick me out, but they sure can jack up the interest and destroy my credit.

If it were a preplanned end date of covid and the world goes back to normal, then that's one thing. But, I don't think anything will go back to any semblance of normalcy anytime soon. I have a feeling it's going to get a lot worse before it gets any better.

You know, if I was in your shoes today, I would sell the house now well you can get a decent price for it and buy a cheaper one. Size down as far as you can go!

Honestly, I would rather rent then have a mortgage today, I just hate debt of any kind. Debt = Slavery

I want to buy a house again, but I just know the way things are going, I'll probably pick one up for cheap in the not to distant future the way things are going.

And when I do, I will pay cash for it.
I live real cheap today, rent is 450.00 a month, room and board while I save, save, save. I paid cash for a 30ft nice camper last summer and I'll live in that this summer closer to work.

I'm living sacrificially right now but it will pay off I hope one day soon.
They can't take something you own outright from you.

I have thought of that, so no worries about suggesting it. I have always been for the rural life, but my wife always wanted to live in the city. If push comes to shove, I am more than willing to buy into a smaller country home.

I'm not going to pull the trigger just yet though.
