It takes time and resources to have it mailed and delivered so people put more into a letter. Also seems more ‘official’.

I just received a beautiful glass ink pen set for 90% off.. it came out to about 4 dollars. giving it as a gift to my spouse and daughter as they're way more artistic than I am.. although I will get some regular black ink to use for myself to write letters now. (the one I got in thr kit has a bit of amazing type of glitter inside the ink,)
