Software Engineers Looking for a Job | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 79348925 United States 01/25/2021 08:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OK please stop calling programmers engineers because they are not - thanks! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79348925 some of us are, in fact my degree was computer engineering specialty of EE A degree doesn’t make anyone an engineer. You are an engineer when you build stuff. Complex software required engineering skills just like building a House, a Skyscraper or a car. I am Not sure about your country but in the USA a college degree is required to call yourself an engineer, just like one is required to call yourself a Medical Doctor. You have to be licensed as a "professional engineer" or an "engineer in training" by a national board where you take an exam, etc. Unfortunately a lot of programmers (not our EE friend above) have bastardized the term and the state registration boards are not fully enforcing the legal use of the term. YES, it is illegal to offer "engineering services" if you are not a real engineer in most of not all states. Programming is a wonderful career and you have to be bright to do it, but by your logic carpenters and cabinet makers and chefs are also engineers. I been known to pick a bad splinter out of myself once in a while so I am an MD. I have tinkered around in the backyard on a real nice shed, so I am a structural engineer too. When I see a programmer with a P.E. license I will gladly call him and engineer. Until then he is a programmer. |

My company is hiring. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79387251 You can work remotely (big plus!) The interview will not be easy... Hope you can leetcode... Salary will be more than you're getting paid right now, perhaps double. It is a contract job. If you're interested in a full time job, that's a possibility too but not remotely for now. Any chance your company needs a solid PHP guy? |

So what are all the other engineers who don't need to take the professional engineer licensing test called ( e.g. aerospace engineer, computer engineer, etc. ). Languages change and states often lag behind. Btw. Programming is only one part of software engineering. If you don't understand that then I wouldn't expect you to understand the difference between a programmer and a software engineer. |

Go fuck yourself. It's companies like you that are helping destroy the American worker. The good news, is that you will be dragged down with it. |

Hi OP, I'm interested! What % of the job is Linux work, and what % is Python/coding? I'm more on the Linux side, but very interested in Python and aggressively doing so. How many openings, and when are you looking to interview/hire? Thanks! |

How many openings, and when are you looking to interview/hire? Thanks! Absolutely 0% of the job is Python coding. Python is a scripting language. So it would be more accurate to ask how much Python scripting is required. Or perhaps, how proficient in programming Python scripts does a perspective contractor need to be? |

Most jobs have terms that make them legally indistinguishable from "contract" jobs really. I can guarantee you that our company isn't about dragging down workers... far from it. |

How many openings, and when are you looking to interview/hire? Thanks! Linux will be very important for this job. If you have many years of experience administering Linux and only a few with python, you'd likely do well in our interviews. Let me know how I can contact you...
