The USSR had a state within a state, called the KGB. It was one of the world's unaccountable governments. Even the Communist party's top leaders were afraid of the KGB.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, some unaccountable government was beginning to control Russia under Yeltsin.

Putin came to power and destroyed that control and freed Russia from this Evil. There is no "overstructure" above the Russian government now that controls Russia like it was before.

Post Soviet Russia never has been American enemy. In fact, Russia has been calling to become partners since Putin came to power.

Putin offered to Bill Clinton for Russia to join NATO. Clinton refused. Why? That was an anti-American act by Clinton!!! The American people and the entire world would benefit tremendously from becoming partners with Russia.

Bush later tried to bury this "Russia joining NATO" discussion. He started building the ABM systems, which went directly against Russia and put the US on a path to conflict with Russia.

Obama destabilized Syria and Ukraine to ruin the relation with Russia completely so that the whole discussion about Russia joining NATO would never resurface.
