Seems that the 7.62 x 39 is almost half the cost of the 5.56.

I just do not see the 5.56 supply/costs getting any better.

AK's are far cheaper, as is its ammunition, very robust, can take near any abuse. Though not as accurate as AR's. In an asymmetrical Second Amendment Civil War the AK will be just as effective, with plenty of interchangeable parts available everywhere.

Most AK's are Venezuela manufactured now.

I was surprised to see on Ammoseek how much cheaper AK ammo is. Still high, but far better than AR ammo

Don't buy into the myth that AK's are not as accurate as AR's. I don't know where that started but it just isn't true.

I qualified as a rifle expert in the Marine Corps back in the early 90s on the M-16 A2 platform. Shot man sized targets at 500 meters with iron sights. I like the AR platform because it is familiar to what I trained with.

However, I have both Russian and Yugoslavian made AKs and I can hit the exact same targets with those as I can with any AR out to 200 meters. Usually my groups at 100 meters are tighter with the AK platform. Anything beyond 200 meters, I'm not going to be shooting either of these platforms and would go to a bolt action.

The only thing that might make an AK not as accurate is the selection of ammo. Cheap 7.62 x 39 ammo is cheap for a reason.
