Re: Fimbulwinter – The harsh winter that precedes the end of the world
Idk is cold here in Connecticut but the snow doesn't come anymore... since the year 2000 its been less and less snow every year...

occasionally we get a big storm in the winter but nothing like days gone by
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6712357

Was just reflecting on this about Vermont a couple days ago. In the late 90's and early 00's if would consistently be 0° F and down into the negatives for much of the winter. The snow would accumulate until there would be berms several feet high piled along the roadways and it was rare that it would melt.

Now the snow melts multiple times a seaon even on the mountain peaks where the ski slopes are. It has become common for there to be little accumulation. Rain all throughout the winter. Warm spells into the 50's and higher. This trend has increased over the past two decades.

Granted VT doesn't get much snow. I lived in the Sierra Nevada's for a while where a storm might dump 8 or more feet in under 48 hours.

For what it's worth: I'm not into the scam of human induced global coolwarming climate changery. I'm old enough to remember when we were supposed to freeze to death of a new ice age or die of a population explosion (one Paul Ehrlich's dumbass notions) by the 90's. I do think that human implemented geo-engineering likely plays a role.

I think most weather is driven by naturally occurring patterns and cycles (a lot of it directly impacted by the sun's activity) which aren't taken into account because they don't fit the agenda of the power hungry sociopaths writing climate policy.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51149298

The Left just uses climate changes that are naturally occurring to fit into their overall fascistic ideas of social control.

Mongolia facing 'one of the most extreme winters on record'

Less than 50%

Mongolia is facing one of the most extreme winters on record, with temperatures forecast to plummet to lows of -50C for days on end. This has triggered the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to release emergency funds to quickly assist some 2,000 vulnerable herder families.

The extreme winter - known as dzud - threatens the health and livelihoods of thousands of Mongolian herders living in the country's remote central and southern provinces.

Hence, as a pre-emptive tactic, the Mongolian Red Cross Society has delivered cash assistance and livestock nutrition kits in target areas to assist them in meeting their immediate needs and save their livestock, which is the main source of livelihoods for the people of Mongolia.

It's been an exceptionally mild winter here so far. It's only January but it's barely gotten down to -10.

Temperatures plunge to -73F in Siberia during Longest and Harshest Cold Spell on Record

Less than 50%

An Arctic air mass has engulfed practically ALL of transcontinental Russia since the beginning of December, 2020 resulting to many regions suffering their longest stretches of subzero cold on record.

Siberia in particular is currently in the midst of an abnormally long and harsh period of subzero cold, even by Russia’s standards.

As reported by the Associated Press on Jan. 14, the temperature in the Yakutia region of eastern Russia dropped below -40F (-40C) during the first week of December and hasn’t climbed above that since.

Over recent days, the mercury has sunk even further, to a staggering -58F (-50C), and beyond: “The main rule is not to stand in one place and to keep going and going,” was the advice given by Yakutsk resident Dmitry Kuznetsov.

A recap of Norse mythology

less than 50%

Someday – whenever the Norns, those inscrutable spinners of fate, decree it – there shall come a Great Winter (Old Norse fimbulvetr, sometimes Anglicized as “Fimbulwinter”) unlike any other the world has yet seen. The biting winds will blow snows from all directions, and the warmth of the sun will fail, plunging the earth into unprecedented cold. This winter shall last for the length of three normal winters, with no summers in between. Mankind will become so desperate for food and other necessities of life that all laws and morals will fall away, leaving only the bare struggle for survival. It will be an age of swords and axes; brother will slay brother, father will slay son, and son will slay father.

Re: Fimbulwinter – The harsh winter that precedes the end of the world
Coldest air on Earth sends temperatures below -50°C in Siberia, down to -58°C (-72.4°F) at one locality)

less than 50%

A lobe of air that broke off of the polar vortex, which is currently blanketing parts of Siberia, is sending temperatures plummeting across parts of Canada.

Canada is no stranger to temperatures below -30°C, but parts of eastern Russia have plummeted below -40°C since the middle of December, courtesy of the bone-chilling polar vortex lingering over Siberia. One of the more chilling temperatures, in Delyankir, just northeast of the coldest, permanently inhabited places on Earth recorded a -58°C on January 18th, 2021.

A lobe of frigid air that broke off of the polar vortex meandered its way down across North America and is sending temperatures tumbling across Canada. This raises the question, will the coldest air in the world soon make an appearance in Canada?

Animals are frozen solid as temperatures drop to -56 Celsius in Kazakhstan

less than 50%

Animals have been frozen solid after temperatures dropped to minus 56C in Kazakhstan.

Videos show both a hare and a dog frozen to death amid bitter conditions sweeping across the vast Central Asian nation.

The hare was trapped while climbing through a fence before dying in the arctic conditions and its body had to be pulled free by locals.

The dog appears to have become stuck while walking through a snow-covered field.
