Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 79451010 United States 01/24/2021 06:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Very telling. It doesn't take a lot for people in Europe to protest however rioting and looting is not the norm there. Correct me if I'm wrong? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 63928440 I would not say it is *the norm* really. It happens more often than it should however IMHO. I still remember the huge riots all over France of December 2005 where many cars were burned in many cities. And we know after all there are always agitators and activists involved who are stirring things up if they seem to peaceful, don't we? Peaceful protesting should be possible whenever it is needed. Those hugely destructive riots is something different, especially with cars being torched and stores looted - many innocent people are victimized by this. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 79451010 United States 01/24/2021 06:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Also 150 arrests in Brussels (Belgium) today following protests against police violence. 2 people died while in police custody recently. After the Chovanec scandal last year (a Slovak man who was probably wrongfully arrested by the Charleroi airport police and probably died while still detained in a cell) this is probably the last 2 drops in the bucket. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 79975805 Germany 01/24/2021 06:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Peaceful protests should be allowed... they are, that is not the problem. This protest erupted because of the nationwide curfew that was declared. at 9 PM no one is allowed on the streets anymore. I think the curfew decision was a poorly judged one, taken by the wrong people that did not understand at wihch point frustration was boiling in the population. Not everyone can spend the curfew in a villa with a garden. What also struck me when whatching the videos is that is was not the usual riot crowd in big european cities in action here, judging on the videos. This eems to be like a more genreal outburst. Let s see what happens next.... |

They don't stike me as the type of people to loot. The virus must be taking a bite out of their pocketbooks for them to riot and loot. Very telling. The looters are usually not native Dutch. |

Let s see what happens next.... What do you mean by "a more general outburst"? In what way does this riot crowd seem different? As for the curfew, yes, 9 PM seems really harsh. If I am not mistaken however, in countries such as Franc, Spain, and Portugal, they have or have had curfews as stringent if not more so. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 63928440 a supermarket did get looted In Enschede, rioters tried to break windows of a hospital's emergency service throwing projectiles. This is stuff that goes beyond riots. Authorities in Eindhoven say these were not protests, violence against police was the object. |

There were lots of hooligans there from everywhere but also there was panic that had broken out. |

Of course, the curfew keeps a lot of people down. However, people are allowed to get there dogs out. So, an new company made it possible to borrow a dog! Most people just adjust to the rules. And moan in solitude. Be careful when you fight the monsters, lest you become one. (Friedrich Nietzsche) |
