Message Subject What do I do when a friend asks to work out with me?

I always feel a bit annoyed when someone wants to work out with me. My workout is tailored to me. Plus I go for 3 to 4 hours. Most are not gonna keep up with me. So by working out with them, I'm actually am having to play down to their level. I never understood why people need partners to motivate them to workout. If you can't motivate yourself, you're in trouble.

How should I tell them that I workout for hours and if they can't keep up with me, it does me no good? Is that rude? It really annoys me how friends who have never worked out actually ask me if they can join in.

I'm surprised to see you still here, OP. Seems like you found somewhere that 'feels'
mentor-ish to you, even though your ideology isn't quite suited. Just my thought, feel free to ignore it.

You feel more than you think. Those two things are supposed to be tied together in some sort of balance.

Stop feeling like you have to limit yourself to the other's performance. Perhaps you could give up the OCD rigour of just one session, to show your friend the ropes? That would be considered unselfish.

Think about, that person's just starting out - and hasn't got the habit yet. You started there too. That person was motivated to ask you, probably because they respected your experience. Do it, or you'll end up with no friends.
