Is that a violin at 20 seconds in? It sounds programmed in rather than performed because the notes transition abruptly. I thought it may sound better with smooth transition between notes.

yeah, its two violins seperated by fifths. I use a daw for all my music and that particluar sounds comes from Friktion modeled strings.

I agree, I could work on the humanizing of the transitions.

I understand. Not many of us have access to a plethora of classical instruments.. lol.

I guess what matters most is that you're happy with it. I think it sounds promising.

honestly, this is the kind of feeback I am looking for. Ive been doing school for this and writing as I learn, but my ears hear all the work I put in, not the raw sound.

I’ll be honest I don’t like anything that’s completely comprised of all digital sound, but you made it and that takes a level of dedication that’s admirable. Five stars for the post, pick up a real instrument if you’re truly passionate.

lol, thanks. I own two guitars, two harmonicas, and a pianica. not to mention the keyboards that are required to play the sounds.

I’m sorry if I sounded crass,

I have two guitars, a bass, keyboard, and electric drum set too. I have a hard time motivating into recording with garage band. Much simpler than reaper though.

I will post more at a later date, right now I'm just focusing on symphonic orchestration to help me with the overall sounds I'm trying to achieve. I posted today because I feel like Ive grown, but It's better to hear from your peers if you want to avoid the plateus.

lol, no worries. I use reaon, and it's a pain in the ass, but I love the physical modeling of all the wiring into and out of whatever Im writing with. I honestly love writing with the real thing, I just don't own all the sounds I hear in my head, and renting an orchestra sounds expensive. lol

Man I can’t even lay down a whole track the last 6 mos so I’m not judging, which sucks because we had a tragedy in the family and that’s sometimes great emotion to work with. This last year just had me in terminal staleness forever.

Is the Cello real?

Kinda sounds like it could be a keyboard.

I liked it either way, but would be real nice with a real cello and less effected violin.

Especially like the rhythm.

Make that more realistic, or maybe add some different kind of reverb to that cello to mask it, make it smoother.

Violin melody was not as special for me. Not bad though. Maybe would like it better with some breaks in rhythm that plays off of of that sweet cello rhythm.

I like to jam with myself when I need motivation. Lay down a 16 beat drum sample and just start jamming on top of it. next thing you know youve got your inspiration.

sorry to hear about your loss man, I really hope you get it out through some music. theres nothing better for tragedy than laying some tracks imho.

they were all modeled strings, and yeah, I posted the raw sounds without the mastering of reverb or eq filters. trying to focus on my articulations before I worry too much about the master effects.

Needs a bit more depth, maybe it is just the opening in which case perfectly fine. I pined it like I try to do with all who want their talents shown off and critiqued. Pay no attention to the trolls and just listen to the genuine folks.

take this constructive to help you move forward.

1 over quantized, no feel
2 way too fast, again no feel
3 way to digital/harsh, no warmth in the instruments

so slow it down and play the virtual instruments live with no quantize then go into midi editor and fix the mistakes.
lastly separate the tracks and eq, compress, add some reverb or room ambience and maybe a tape saturator to get a warm classical feel like it's real string instruments.

the arrangement is nice if it was slowed down to feel it.

music is 90% about mood, 10% technical.

I like it . The end got a bit too cluttered . the bagpipes were a nice touch . the strings could have faded out as the pipes brought in with maybe a stepped pitch sustained 808 or something seeing as this was obviously a synth piece.


That sounds pretty cool actually a bagpipe with sustained 808 bass line stepped up for the progression of the pipes.


One thing I dont like which isnt your fault but just how empty and robotic synthetic babpipe notes sounds . There's no natural progression of the notes just hard changes at the end of each sound file.


Overall I liked it . Just try to to match instruments a little better and try to differentiate clashing instruments or sound files . like strings and pipes at the same time.

The only way I found where you can use two clashing instruments like that is if they're both tone/note matched in their progression . And when you do that it sounds cool .
