Listen, I washed cars for 8 hours a day. Then I ate dinner and caught a ride to another county and worked another 4 hours washing cars. When I got home, my feet were wrinkled and bleached white from the chemicals. The skin used to fall off of my soles. I did this 5 days a week and some Saturdays.

Why? Because I wanted to eat and have a roof over my head.

I bought a car for $600 and fixed anything that broke on it with cheap tools I bought at Advanced Auto. I had 2-3 roommates in a 2 bedroom apartment and slept on the couch.

Life SHOULD be hard when you are young. It teaches you to be strong and how you must work for everything. Do this right, and life will get easier as you get older. Take the easy way out, and you will ALWAYS BE POOR.

Just facts.

Did you support a child?

Do you think she should have had an abortion? Is it the child's fault that she got pregnant and decided to keep the baby? Do you think that society is better served by not giving her aid and leaving her and her baby homeless?

You're seriously missing the point here. I've been a single WORKING mom, and never took welfare, and I can tell you everyone that had welfare and partied all day were way better off than me, and it should never be that way.

Also, she had a choice to get pregnant or not, believe it or not, these are all about life choices. If you reward someone and give them preferential food stamps and housing they will rinse and repeat. I live in the south and have known several girls to purposefully get pregnant a second time (out of wedlock), to double their benefits.

Final point you're missing is that moving the wages up to $15 an hour is clearly not going to help her as she's not even working close to full time, AND then she would lose all her "freebies", so how does that help her, think, man, think.

Honestly, I think it should be like when my parents were young. When my dad lost his job they had to go to a warehouse in Milwaukee and get government food that would be passed out. Right now things are so easy people have no plans to get a better job or work more hours.
