I live in a city where each year on Tibetan independence day, a Tibetan flag is raised over a certain government building.

EVERY year the nearest China consulate sends threatening letters and phone calls to the man who decides each year about the flag raising; and each year, this wonderful guy calmly ignores the threats and raises the flag :)

That's the kind of thing you can do in a democracy - calmly show respect for an endangered people even when Chinese government bullies try to stop you.

And oh yeah the whole point of that post was that this guy is a liberal Democrat, lol.

Taiwan deserves to be free but at the same time if it falls so do the rest of our allies in the pacific and it will ruin our ability to have a control and containment strategy for all of the pacific.

So I think this is going to come to a head. But with Biden at the charge, he'll back down and China will take Taiwan in a matter of months maybe years if we're all lucky.

If this is true, then it would be suicidal for a Chinese Coast Guard ship to fire on a US carrier or destroyer.

Imagine arguing on the internet and speculating about something when you could just go look it up on the publicly available government website.

Taiwan has said over and over they have no desire to join the mainland. I was just trying to say it is a bad example of American imperialism, and would be an excellent example of Chinese imperialism should they take it by force.
