starting when? In 1983 when I started working it was 3.35 an hour it stayed there thru 88 when I graduated high school..in the middle there lets say 1986 with 1 hours wages I could buy 2 cheeseburgers, fries and a coke from Mcdonalds and 1 gallon of gas.
today for 7.50$ I can buy exactly the same.
3$ for gas, 2$ for 2 cheeseburgers, 1 $ for fries and 1$ for a drink = 7.00

.89 for gas, 1$ for 2 cheeseburgers, 50 cents for a fries and 50 cents for a coke = 2.89
