Missouri asks thousands of unemployed people to repay jobless aid
Some unemployed Americans are being asked to return their jobless benefits months after they received the money. An investigation by CBS affiliate KMOV4 in St. Louis found that Missouri authorities are asking thousands of unemployment recipients to give back the weekly state payments or face potential consequences. Officials say they incorrectly paid thousands of people, to the tune of tens of millions of taxpayer dollars.

Jenna Rieker, a single mom in Bridgeton, is one of many Missourians to receive a notice, which in her case arrived just before Christmas last year. According to KMOV4, a letter from the state informed Rieker that she had to repay unemployment funds she received between March and August because of what it called an error or omission on her part.

"I filled out the paperwork and I sent it in. I don't know where I erred, but if I did err, why didn't you contact me or call me?" Rieker said.

It’s almost like our government was allowed to become the very tyrannical thing our founding fathers tried to prevent

Re: Missouri asks thousands of unemployed people to repay jobless aid
Same things happening everywhere, the media is just keeping a lid on it. It'll get a lot worse yet. They got rid of Trump, got their new laws pushed through and stripped away more of our freedoms, now they'll bring in the worst austerity measures in modern history. Possibly the worst in world history. In order to fix global economies they're going to cut, claw back, seize, loot and steal anything that isn't nailed down. They also need to distract from the covid scam now that it's falling apart and leaders are jumping ship. Oh it's a real virus but it was never a threat to humanity and never a threat worth destroying billions of lives over. Getting rid of Trump was. At least in their eyes. It's to late to do anything about it now except hope we who could see what they were up to don't get caught up in the austerity measures. We probably will, I'll be surprised if anyone escapes them.

Apparently more than a million in Calif. cut off because state screwed up and sent fraudulent payments. Just like electric company shutting off power cause they screwed up and lost lawsuit.

Re: Missouri asks thousands of unemployed people to repay jobless aid
Here in Texas to get any unemployment aid they require you to go to what they call "workforce".

No matter your situation, no matter if there are no jobs to be had, you are forced to keep detailed records of job hunts you have applied to.

Husband was on it a few years back and it is a nightmare.
He's not good with computers or internet searches so I was the one that had to sit every day and send his resume to all kinds of businesses for him to get any help through unemployment.

If your don't do the required searches and keep a proper log to turn in they can cancel your unemployment and legally force you to pay back all the funds they have given you.

It's a racket, they know there are not enough jobs for everyone and most of the logs people turn in are made up lies, where all they do is call a business and ask the managers name, then they add that they "talked" to manager what's his name for a job position.

Everybody cheats at it down here.
If you don't cheat, you don't eat.
