Tell your "friend" to more or less constantly monitor sites like ammoseek.com, reasonably priced inventory goes very quickly.

Prices like we saw in 2019 are very long gone.

Academy sports you have to ask the truck schedule and get there a couple hrs early and you may get some. Might!!! I have scored some 556 and 9mmm that way. At this point I dont even know if that is possible. You are sorta a day late and whole of dollars short. OP.

If you're serious you should check armslist in your state/area and don't forget to hit the local gun shows as well.

I went to a gunshow last weekend and there was a lot of ammo,every caliber. Lots of ammo on gunbroker.com. High prices but available

Just get what you can. I know Sportsmans Guide has PPU .223 55 grain FMJ on backorder as well as some nato stuff. About 70 cents a round. You will habe to wait until February. That is probably gonna be your one and only chance to get an .223 online for that price.
