You know, since most electric meters have been converted to digital, there is the possibility that a signal could be sent VOIP, to shut off the power to each house, while the power on the pole may not be affected.

Remember, treat all power company electric lines as energized, regardless.

It is possible but I also think it's gonna happen on the 15th of Jan.

Take out power you hit several birds with one stone.

#1, when backup power supplies go empty, communication all goes down. (Phone, internet, everything)

#2, its winter, you hold everyone hostage to the elements. Heating, water supply, etc.

#3, emergency generators have only so long before going empty. Food supply gets impacted, hospital and urgent care becomes disabled, etc.


In that state of events you can do anything and no one in the world would ever find out. No cameras, no news, no phones, no nothing.

My husband did receive a text and I am only passing this along in case it is legitimate. I don't know if it is or isn't but we aren't talking about a slight dip in the stock market here. We are talking about the power grid...in the middle of winter...loss of communication amid rumors of invading forces...

I hope nothing happens. In case you missed my original post, I just put 50 eggs in an incubator. But seriously, I am not going to sit on this and just hope she was kidding. This client of his does not kid! So she believes what she was told enough to share it with us. If nothing happens, I will be glad. If something does, maybe one of you out there will have heeded the warning and at least filled a tub with water.

Apple is doing an automatic update tonight on all iphones from 1am to 3am. Even if you turn off the automatic update setting, it will put the update on any phone plugged into a power source. The concern is that this update tonight will disable the emergency alert notifications on all phones so Trump cannot communicate via the system. Best to charge your phone before bedtime and unplug before 1 am.

As somebody that worked for years in the power industry I can tell you our grid is horrible. It might just barely be in the top 50 in the world.

Basically our grid is split into 3 major parts. Because of the differences in the grids it would be highly unlikely for all 3 to go down together. It's also extremely difficult to send power from one part to another because of those differences.

But back to the first part of what I was saying our grid is horribly outdated. Also very vulnerable to attacks in many different ways. We don't have any meaningful amount of spare parts for power plants in our country anymore. It's all in China thanks to greedy motherfuckers like GE outsourcing everything.

If there is a major failure natural or otherwise it is indeed very likely to be weeks or months before full power is restored. God help us all if it happens. Especially in winter. We would probably nearly all starve or freeze.

Pray this never happens.

Larger sites have generators (3-4 hours, more if you find diesel)

The Northeast blackout of 2003 was at most 3 to 5 days with no power.

It all depends on the cause of the power outage.

Destroyed generating infrastructure would be the worst and hence longest, whereas relay station disruption would be the least and shortest.
