They might have that ability under provincial health laws, but under the Criminal Code of Canada, which supersedes provincial health laws, police still have to get a warrant to enter any premises unless an emergency is in progress. The only exception to that is if the RCMP are involved, and that is the case for most municipalities outside of Fredericton and St. John. The RCMP have what is called a Writ of Assistance, and that allows them to go into any premises anytime, anywhere and pretty much for any reason, although they still have to justify the entry. |
