I had a black lab that was the goodest boy ever. He passed away in 2012 from cancer. Never had one that I loved as much until this guy

:cutepug:

He is my buddy and never leaves my side. So smart with the cutest pug noises for every emotion

Just fed our three little monkeys...all long haired chihuahuas...love 'em to bits.
 Quoting: Swearbox

We just put down our 20 year old chihuahua, she was the third of our three amigos, all chihuahuas. All three are buried in our backyard. Princess, our last one, always loved laying in the sunlight. So she is buried where she does not get any shade. Coco was 15, and Tiny we think was about 17. We still have Holly and Sissy, both Chihuahuas and now have just recently added two cats.

Re: So who has had a dog they LOVED
My wife got her dog, Newton, like this.

She went to the dog pound looking for a certain type of dog. When she did this dog in the back pulled itself up and somehow got to where she could see it coming to her. It was almost dead, and set to be euthanized the next day.

She immediately knew it was THE dog meant for her.

She got it, took it immediately to a good vet, where it stayed for a week. It had parvo, and had been found and taken to the pound after being thrown from a moving car.

It lived, is healthy as they come now, intelligent, and it guards us with its life.

She is a member of the pack....errr....family.

Re: So who has had a dog they LOVED
I've always had our dogs "gifted" to us, usually because friends or family were moving to an apartment that couldn't keep them. They've all been wonderful. I've had a couple registered beagles - even when older have so much personality - my remaining 12 year old dog is a mix, I think she's part aussie/part spaniel of some sort - from my son.

I plead with people to get your animals from a humane shelter, instead of insisting on a "pure-bred" designer dog. Mixed breeds generally have far less health problems.

My 12 year old Abby, who was a beagle, had to be put down last June. She was a good dog, with so many different facial looks/emotions. Her problem is that she would eat everything and anything - and wouldn't come when called. She had a few instances of getting out of the yard the last year of her life, and gobbling somethings down and throwing them up. I believe she gobbled something down like stew - I could smell the onions in her emesis. The next day she was almost catatonic and went downhill fast. Vet said her hemoglobin was extremely low.

Onions and garlic are dangerous for dogs. She had other health problems also. I still grab 2 treats at times when I go to give Sophie a treat.

I know I'll see Abby when I pass......

There are a number of Bible versions to support that they do. I think a lot of people ask that question, and it seems sure, at least as per Christianity, that they do. There are many related verses. For example:

Matthew 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care.

Isaiah 11:6-9
The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling a together;
and a little child will lead them.
7The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
8The infant will play near the cobra’s den,
and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest.
9They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.

Dogs dont go to heaven,, They dont have souls.. They cant sin. They are animals not a human. Christ did not get crucified so dogs could have their sins forgiven and go to heaven.

People always use the term Heaven and I dont think it means what they think it means.. Heaven is the beatific vision of the Holy Trinity where you are purified and desire only God and will worship him forever with the Angels and Communion of Saints in an everlasting Hymn of HOLY HOLY HOLY..

Heaven is not a place where you will be playing with your dog. You will be worshipping God if you are lucky enough to go there.. Hope this helps..

Get a Siberian Husky if you want a petulant 2 year old child around that loves you one second and sasses you out the next, then has nutcase flash Gordon runabouts for no reason between pass-out deep sleep in inappropriate places. Yet is loyal to the pack (your family) as any well treated from puppy-hood dog (not ankle-biter)

Posting from bed surrounded by my pack. Two big, snoring goofballs. My 15yo Berner/ Border Collie cross is the sweetest thing ever. He's retired from herding sheep and chickens but he still comes to the garden with me and loves to dig potatoes.
My 3yo husky/shepherd is tennis ball obsessed and loves trail running with my son. She's hiked over half the ADK high peaks so far.

Re: So who has had a dog they LOVED
I had a chihuahua for 13 years. I LOVED him so much. I never knew you could be so close to a dog. He was with me all of the time, slept at my feet, sat in my lap while watching tv.

I got VERY sick last years november and spent 9 days in ICU and 4 in regular hospital room, I almost died and did code the first day but the were able to get me stable. While I was in icu my kids called my wife and told her that Leo wasnt eating or drinking and seemed very sad. My wife didnt tell me while in the hospital but when I was released and got home my little Leo was sick and not doing well. He was SO happy to see me, he just went crazy with joy.

Once I was home he started to eat again and seemed to be doing well but he was 13 years old. I woke up new years day of 2020 and my best friend had passed away and the foot of my bed. I can not begin to tell you how hard I took it. I was destroyed. I miss him so much, I'm crying now while typing this.

I went on for three month and the hurt was still really bad, when my wife and kids gave me a puppy. They were hoping to cheer me up but it only hurt, I wanted Leo back, I told them I diudnt want it and they said well, we have him now so lets just try it and see how it goes. It took a few weeks but that little dog got me through it. I'm still hurting and he wont take the place of Leo but he has made his own place in my heart now and I'm so happy they got him.

“Pup” and I could “talk”

RIP Pup

Gone some years - never replaced

She was a gift for my BF now husband when he bought a house - he told me the specific dog he wanted to get when he got a house and I found her !

Then the deal fell through and I had to keep her at my house !

We bonded like I’ve never known with an animal

She worshipped him ... but mentally communed with me

We had a lot of great times -camping - canoeing- hiking- gardening

Put in over 50,000 miles traveling together

Haven’t got another dog

They cost 5-10 times what I paid for her

Died peacefully in my arms

Nonsense... IF you get to heaven because you love and desire God above all things, all your desires will be fulfilled.. You will not desire your Dog or Cat. There are mothers in heaven with sons in hell. Sons in heaven with mothers in hell yet they are completely happy and in a state of utter Joy! Again Heaven is being brought into the beatific vision of the Holy Trinity where we will be face to face with God and worship him for all eternity with the Choirs of Angels and Communion of Saints.

I had a boxer who got cancer at 11. The day the vet told me he doesn't have any good days left, we had him put down. I petted him till he was gone and kept a stiff upper lip. I could only nod to the vet and cashier. Couldn't say a word or would have broke down. Made it to the car and cried like a baby the whole way home. I still miss my boy, and can get choked up and that was almost 10 years ago.

Re: So who has had a dog they LOVED
When I was 2 (I'm 52) I had a standard poodle named Caesar. I used to ride him like a horse. Across the street was junk yard German Shepherd ina small cage with 6' high fencing. I could go into his pen and play but most couldn't. So then there was our neighbours dog. A miniature collie.

Well, the miniature collie stole Caesars bone so I went and retrieved it. Fucking thing bit my cheeck, right through, I showed up screaming with my tongue hanging out the side of my face. My mom took me to the hospital and I got 13 stitches and a scar I still have that looks like a dimple. There are worse scars.

Anyhow, while we were gone, the sheperd and Caesar ripped the collie into small pieces and left them all over the neighbours yard. The sheperd had jumped 6' up with no running space, Caesar just roamed all the time. When we got back from the hospital, the sheperd was waiting outside his pen to be let back in, Caesar was happy then the neighbour got home.

The neighbour came over screaming about his dog in little bits all over his yard and my mom hauled me with 13 big black stitches out and the neighbour shut up. Cleaned up his dog bits and never spoke about the incident again. I loved both Caesar and the sheperd. They did their best to take revenge on the little mutt that attacked me.

Never really got into dogs after that for some reason. I have a 24 toed black cat.

Re: So who has had a dog they LOVED
A dog represents to most everyone two qualities hard to find elsewhere: Unconditional love for and loyalty to their owner.

So its New Years Eve, things are gloomy all over, but dogs remain a positive spark.

I have had a number of dogs.

Laddie
Timmy
Susie
Tiger and now
Newton

Laddie was our young family's first dog. It was a beautiful collie. It was an awesome dog, but my parents decided to give it another home because children, a new home and a big dog were just a bit much for them that early on. Tragically, as in a fictional story, Laddie ran away, and had almost returned home to us, when he was run over by a train at a crossing.
Almost killed me when I heard of it.

Timmy was my first personal dog, and we were virtually joined at the hip. He was put to sleep in his old age, and again, I almost died.

Then there was my sister's stray dog, Susie. A chihuahua mix. I had a BB gun and a pellet rifle, and right off, when I picked it up to go outside to shoot, she jumped up and insisted on going with me. She would always do that, even if sick. And she would actually fetch the birds, rats, etc. I shot. Do not panic, I feed em all now. She also was put to sleep in her old age.

After that I had Tiger, but did not allow myself to get attached. I did not think I could handle their dying again.

And then my wife got a Jack Russell she named Newton. She spent big time money training that dog, getting it certified, and it has more toys and things than most kids. She LOVES it. But it WORSHIPS me. I started trying to stop that, but my wife would not have it. So that is our pet now, and though I hate it, I am getting attached.

Dogs are special. They really do love you, and if you find anyone remotely as loyal as a dog, any dog, well it will be rare.

There is magic between a dog and its owner(s).

Have you experienced that?

Tell us about it!
 Quoting: LearningEveryDay

Newton is a good name for a puppy...I'm like you I would get too attached and love a dog too much most likely. Couldn't bare the pain of having to put it to sleep or something else happening to it.

I think you will. I like these 2 verses:

Luke 12:34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal

I like to think that seeing our pets again are among the treasures we store up in heaven.

what will things like gold or diamonds matter in heaven? Nothing I think...but having all my beloved pets there with me for all eternity wouold truly be a treasure
 Quoting: Baloney

All the truly good things about life, and much more, forever. And it does not require a sin free life before or after being saved, only acceptance of Jesus. Wish churches spent more time on that and less on sin and damnation.
 Quoting: LearningEveryDay

Excellent thread and thoughts good sir...post more often. This thread gave me a good and happy start to my day.

Along the same lines...I occasionally would listen to near death experiences from people on the internet. One account I recall was someone dying and going to heaven...and seeing Jesus surrounded by happy pets... laughing and carrying on with them.

I can't remember all the specific details from it but it went something like that. Gave me good hope we will see our pets we loved when we get to heaven.
