Answer Me This: Nashville AT&T Phone Service
AT&T claims their service is shut down because they had to close the gas lines to the backup generators.

1. Backup generators should run on their own power. If that power can only last 5 hours that in itself is a problem.

2. If that backup power did run out, then fly new batteries, refill gasoline, whatever---it has been over 12 hours. They could fly backup repair support from anywhere in North America by now.

3. If it really is gas lines, then why is gas still running to other parts of downtown? No one else is without heat.

Strange fucking days indeed....

You are correct, backup is DC power from batteries that are recharged by desiel generator.

This is not just an inconvenience. With cell phones AND 911 services down, that means anyone in an emergency situation is at risk. Medical, accident, car break down, suicide prevention, etc......there will be people in situations that will die because of this.

Re: Answer Me This: Nashville AT&T Phone Service
Is it possible they took down cell service for this area to keep an incoming call from detonating something else?

They can't stop someone from calling on a phone outside of the area, but if the receiving "detonator" doesn't have service---nothing will happen.

We've received no guidance on when this will be fixed or what is really going on. Very strange.
