These are all in the cozy catastrophe genre. Peak oil end up happening and the whole world dissolves into small confederacies. The USAis that way as well. The novel discusses several locals trying to manage by using old time skills that might have been used in 1860. The last book has some totally crazy California leftists trying a scam to cheat the citizens. I probably have read all of them ten times. |

That is silly. I liked those books. The Going Home books were entertaining, but with the heroes implausibly winning. One Year After and The Final Day, the 2nd and 3rd parts of the Forschen novels were a bunch of foolishness. I still enjoyed reading them. |

(OP) User ID: 73158440 United States 12/27/2020 01:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | AC ..792--i really appreciate your insights and recommendations. If you would like to create an unpaid account, I would upgrade it so we could pm. If you would rather stay anonymous, I respect that. I tried some of your suggestions, which didn't work for me, as I think I am a bit more lowbrow. But boy did I love Survivors. The Living and the Dead was too dark for my taste. And I ordered the last two books in World Made By Hand, which I had missed, to my chagrin. Was forced to take "film" in h.s and college and frankly loathed all the icons--Antonioni, Metropolis etc. Satyricon sent me into a deep depression, and then when friends raved about it, I felt really isolated. Guilty confession--I didn't even like Ingmar Bergman. Usually loathe subtitles. Love Scottish flicks and most of BBC. Have watched the entire X-Files series four times. Miss Downton Abbey a lot. Prefer the Magnificent Seven to the Seventh Samurai. Like I said, a bit lowbrow. My favorites are Doomtainment in which there are bright spots and the dog always survives. And my favorite movie of all time is Hitchcock's Notorious. If he wasn't there, the message would have still been received by the crew about the evacuation of Earth. They would have still taken one of the crafts, and Iris and the Captain would have still turned around. I've seen worse on Netflix. |
