I watched it yesterday and its not that bad but we have seen better ones.
Clooney promotes the known script that politicians and hollywood want to push down our throats.

The "event" happened but we dont know what it was. It was an envirenmental catastroph.
We caused it.
People live underground but will probably not survive.
The only survivors is a mixed couple of astronauts, the man is black and the woman is white and pregnant (by him).
This couple will revive the human race.
They will live on a moon of Jupiter that can hold life.

Watched the movie. Really felt empty hollow. No progress in the story.

Melodramatic horseshit. Plus right away you knew the kid was a ilusion like somekind of survival purpose mechanic in the brain.

Plus the scifi interior settings are minimalistic. Not a fan of white metalic sterile look most scifi movies show.

You expect a decor with a nice cosy living room with a fireplace. Even a research base station needs a home feel to it. To ease the mind.

But that might just be me.

Accurate synopsis from OP. Just watched it with my brother who is also a sci-fi fan. Self important, boring, and filled with lazy writing. The suspenseful parts were lame and predictable with such a vacuum of backstory that it was tedious to try and connect with the cardboard characters.

Clooney was sniffing his own farts on this one. Two hours wasted with nothing gained.

It was just a movie. Sometimes you have to let go of your pre-concieved ideas and just enjoy the show.

I liked it. The whole daughter he shunned and gave his life to try and save in the end...It was a tear jerker for me.

I agree that the PC crowd are making movies unwatchable these days.

The ending of that one though, I actually liked.

I started to watch it with my mates but we were all eye rolling within ten minutes at how shit it was. It was painfully bad.

Endless lingering shots of Clooney staring into oblivion. Absolute horseshit wrapped in a wank hanky. Fuck off Clooney.

Turned it off after the inevitable race mixing romance scene.

2 black astronauts. Not a single asain, Indian or Mexican, but 2 blacks.

The point of a post-apocalyptic film is that life is precious and though doom seems inevitable, in humanity's history, there were many times when we thought we would become extinct.

So life goes on in some fashion,though life is miserable, we still have our faith. We still have altruism because in the midst of suffering, then some of us are not selfish. We still have love as long as we have faith and altruism, even if it is not reciprocated.

Hollyweird is a strange malevolent group of narcicists and I guess they don't truly care about anyone? Not even themselves as they sabotage their own lives.

They think we are peons who should embrace their "ethics" which is bizarre as they are devoid of ethics. They care about being posers and the appearance of being human.

But they do not act with any depth of feeling, logic, or in any mannerlike human beings. They seem robotic and like long comatose people who have forgotten what humanity is all about.

They make these films either to entertain themselves or instruct us with their propaganda. And many have totally stopped supporting such drivel. It is insulting and foolish and they are repulsive. It is a kind of snobbery, not art, and largely devoid of meaning.

People marry whomever they desire and feel affinity for and how that manifests is not a kneejerk response, but a thoughtful one based on any sincere depth of feeling. Hollyweird presumes they know best when history shows these actors, wrters, directors and producers cannot maintain lasting relationships. So why in the world would we look to them to understand basic spiritual romance as Hollyweird are Lucferians???

To get that bad taste of vomit out of your mouth, watch Testament (1983). That is a different sort of film as a small town survives the effects of a nuclear blast as only a few are exchanged. And the entire town instead of falling appart, help each other survive knowing fully well they are doomed.

Why? Because the children still need parents and they cannot take care of themselves. And so the film is poignant as many start to die, leaving some children abandoned, and one mom tries to give them some sense of normality and cares for them. Then they start dying, and it is all she can do to hold on to her will to survive.

It is gloomy, but meaningful. It gives younger people today a better sense of how older people were deeply concerned all the time of the threat of nuclear weapons. We felt, sooner or later, some idiots would destroy the world in an insane quest for power to dominate all. What a bizarre idea as every empire has fallen in history.

On the Beach, the film about the last surviving US submarine crew who end up in Australia with the last survivors, is a darker film as they elect to commit mass suicide. At the time, that was an unheard of ending for a film.

Now, it is though Hollyweird is no longer human, just cruel creatures, less than animals, as even animals care about their young. I doubt they have the will to live as they don't care about anyone, and they want us not to care about anyone. Why would such a nihilist even get out of bed every morning and continue to eat?

Watch Z for Zachariah. In that, a very kind lovely sweet Christian lady survives in a very rural isolated area. Two men survive, and neither are prize winners, and this country girl next door deserves better,but they are probably the last three in their area of the world.

One guy is a coal miner who probably was like a typical conman at the local bar who charmed the pants off many rural ladies without an ounce of sincerity and is a thief. The other is a cold analytical scientist who is totally out of touch with his emotions.

The tragic part is they could have all gotten along. Whatever past any of us has, does not determine our future as people can change when they have to. Yet the men are fighting over her affection when they themselves probably have no idea of what is to love someone.

She is a thoroughly intelligent, kind, sincere, loving character in a bizzaro universe of wretched despicable sociopaths and psychopathic characters within Hollyweird films.

I saw that when it came out, and it gave me hope. I was wrong. Hollyweird is a glimpse of Hell and hope does not exist in Hell.

Thought it might be decent with Clooney in it...nope...was painful to watch. If i had it in my DVD collection, i'd throw it out to make sure i didn't see it again.

Pure comedy,

The story of a man who spent his entire life focused on research to ensure the survival of the human race,

who at the exact moment his life's work is proven to be justified and it is imperative that a message be sent,

Our hero due to his lack of family or home remains at the station where he and only he can send the message, everyone else has their own personal shit to deal with which appears to be cool, because you know, emotions.

At this point our hero decides to change the habits of a life time, not sure if he's drinking to celebrate or self pity? anyhow risks the human race by indulging but luckily for us he did actually have a daughter, and as his life's work, driving force, logic, biological programming and moral compass suddenly abandon him, a previously non-existent emotional connection to his daughter appears, and this motivates him to umm.. well what his entire life's work was focused on, and he was planning to do before he hit the bottle, now if he knew his daughter was on the spacecraft this would make a little sense, but he didn't, so that was a nice surprise for him. Pity 3 sets of DNA decided to pander to emotions and also reduce survivability of the human race for purely selfish reasons, not that cool to because emotions are the most important thing.

I watched it yesterday as well. It was not very good. I gave it a thumbs down.
