The design principle of RT-PCR means that for patients with high levels of circulating virus (viral load), relatively few cycles will be needed to detect virus and so the Ct value will be low. Conversely, when specimens return a high Ct value, it means that many cycles were required to detect virus. In some circumstances, the distinction between background noise and actual presence of the target virus is difficult to ascertain.



This echoes the CDCs (removed?) statement saying that 'most people who test positive do not have enough virus to be contagious' as the WHO states those with a high viral load will not have to have a high cycle threshold to get a positive result, but those with little amount of virus (either dead or alive) require much higher thresholds to identify the presence.


Fauci himself said ANYTHING over 35 cycle thresholds is a false positive.
Florida made a law requiring testing sites to report the cycle threshold for positive results.
