Fried chicken breast, hash browns, country gravy and broccoli.

We didn't have enough potato and no one was going to the store. I found a box of Hungry Jack dehydrated hash browns in the cupboard dated Jan 2020. They taste fine to us. 1dunno1

Those broccoli spots were strange. I've never seen that on frozen veggies.

This time, there were a lot more pieces with that. I found this piece later. Yuck!

I guess I'll just try to start paying attention to Bogo sales of name brands.

Is there a lot of year round fresh veg where you live? We only buy frozen peas, corn and fruits, rarely spinach. Regular veggies aren't ever that expensive...lol...probably because of the amount of pics you've all seen them in.
 Quoting: Piece of Gossip

Not as much as you'd think. I think a lot of the focus here is peaches and oranges. Of course, now there isn't much of a peach crop and I heard oranges were screwed.

So this is probably the 3rd or 4th time I have found black and brown spots in frozen broccoli I'd day within the last 6 months or so. It is Walmart brand, but I've been buying store brand for many years. This is only been a recent issue. Anyone else finding this?

https://imgur.com/a/TCPOMTX

 Quoting: Paranoiaaaaa

I have and it was Birdseye brand in the gigantic feed yer family for six months size.

I've seen brown spots but never broccoli cancer like that!

And to answer Lance, being in the middle of Eastern Virginia farmland, we have fresh veggies at least half of the year. I'll need to bug Mrs. to buy them often this year.

You've all heard of the "Jaws of Life", well I'm determined that the tiny mouse that looks at me from the top of the toaster oven will meet his demise.

Ladies and gentlemen may I present you with the "Jaws of Death"...

https://imgur.com/SqUxEHP

My cat was upset I was hurting his toy mouse!

And today ServPro will be here with mega dehumidifiers to dry out the damaged part of the house. The well pump had not failed, rather the pressure switch failed from actuating the well pump every fifteen seconds repeatedly. Once that was replaced the pump again ran, but first the leak needed repaired.

The plumbing technicians wound up moving the washer and dryer to access the water heater which they removed and cut a two foot by five foot section out of the drywall and found the offending section of pipe; three holes that devastated the home.

https://imgur.com/ZNp5tWP

The water ran down the inside of the wall behind the water heater, then on under the tub / shower in the hallway bathroom and continued on to the bathroom in the master bedroom where it ran out from under the shower and out from under a wall causing incredible damage.

Interesting trivia: Our weather station kept reporting interference to the lighting detector while the septic pump was failing. Once the pump and controller were replaced we had no more interference alerts. Now for the past two weeks we kept having alerts of lightning detected less than one mile away every hour or two (it reports up to twenty-five miles away). Once the well pump pressure switch was replaced we now have no spurious lightning reports.

Thank you. Hopefully it will not be an issue.

I wrote previously that we are renting this home. After Servpro runs their humidifiers for a few days the homeowner intends to have the floors and bathtub and shower fixtures removed because the floors are damaged and saggy now from the water flow which may have been happening for quite some time it just became bad in the last two weeks where that it became noticeable.

So yes, the place would eventually have mold for us but he's having everything removed walls, floors, tubs, toilets shower stall toilet in the back room and planning on having everything replaced with new upgraded equipment once the floors are done.

As he said since he has an insurance claim for this and they should cover much of it for the water damage from the pipe, this will benefit him and us!

We will point that out to Servpro. If they cannot do mold remediation we'll be sure they include that in their report since the owner is going for all insurance coverage he can.

They are not doing remediation today, it is an evaluation day. He has found water EVERYWHERE. Under floors in rooms we didn't know had wet subflooring, under the hallway wood floors, and in a carpeted closet with mold in it!!

He had this really cool moisture meter he laid on the floor like you would put a stud finder on a wall and it displayed how much moisture was beneath the floor!

Two pair of knee-high leather boots are ruined as are other items in the closet. Sue mentioned I need to get a picture of a laptop and tablet also in the closet so our insurance will replace them (she's a really smart woman!)

It made us sad too, I even said a prayer for him, seriously.

But we could not have him foraging into bread, cracker boxes, or other items on the counter top. He would have spread illness.

I think the trap broke bones, so I could not release him to the woods. The cat quickly ended any suffering.

One bite and he was dead.

We are atoning for it by feeding the raccoon. We saw him eating the bread Sue puts out for the birds so she put out a bowl of water since it has not rained at our home in a week as well as a bowl of cat food for him since raccoons like cat food and it meets all their nutritional needs.

These are pre-raccoon feeding pictures.

Re: Food with Attitude!
Raccoons love cat food and will eat it, but it's not good for them health wise.

"Here are reasons why you should not feed raccoons, especially ones you are not domesticating officially.

They will become dependent and stop foraging.
They can spread diseases to other cats and dogs in the area.
The more they are fed, the higher the chances of these critters breaking into your home.
They become vicious when you withdraw and stop feeding them.
As time goes on, they will feel free in the presence of humans and might grow rabid.
They may end up being euthanized if shunned and reported by concerned neighbors.
To this end, you must be careful when feeding raccoons cat food. Whether they are wild or tame, these creatures may be a public risk. But if you want to feed them, you can have them feast on the dead rodents in your house, or fruits and vegetables. As a prenote, however, feed them discreetly so they do not become dependent and clingy.

Final Thoughts
Cat food should be considered a treat and not a staple food for raccoons. These nocturnal animals will consume almost anything that seems and smells appealing. So, it is not out of the ordinary to find raccoons eating cat food.

There is no health benefit attached to cat food for raccoons, so you can choose to use or skip this option and settle for other feeding choices. However, you should not get comfortable feeding these creatures due to environmental concerns."

I had toast and watermelon tonite. Littlest had a mishap with the new stove that confirmed at least one of my scientific theories. But it resulted in hours and hours of cleaning. Servpro was called but they said it wasn't a big enough job for them.

I wasn't home but got a phone call from littlest this afternoon..I could hear some shouting and the smoke alarm beeping but she wasn't talking on the phone..at first I thought it was a butt dial. But then I heard PSHSHSHSHSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH and she said, IT'S OUT!! And came to the phone. Um Mom...we had a fire. Who is this 'we'? She was the only one home and the only one cooking.

My theory is that gf bread is made of dust. She was trying to toast gf bread crumbs under the broiler. And you can guess what happens if you put a big ol' tray of dust under your broiler?
dead3

But she remembered the kitchen fire extinguisher. And filled my new stove with it. The appliance store said call servpro. Servpro said too small of a job. So I called my fireman friend and he told me how to clean it.
