Ah geez, looks like a smoke Nor'easter! Wed and Thursday look even worse for us. It's just so eerie and it is so dry here that I worry we will have our own fires.
Also, I am still really weirded out by the fact that last night at 11pm when I walked my dog, it was absolutely silent. On a summer night in the country..no bugs, no frogs (and there's a pond in my backyard), no owls or birds, no foxes, not even a dog barking in the distance. I just stood there for a good 10 minutes and it felt like when there is a snowstorm and every thing is muffled.
Then I came in and went to bed and a car alarm went off..TWICE. None of my neighbors are super close so I laid there and wondered if I should go back out and figure out where it was and call the cops but it was only on for a minute or two each time so I didn't call.

I came out of my tiny home the other day, because I smelled something off.....acrid smoke. I looked up to my parents home and it looked like the whole house was on fire! Billows of thick brown smoke pouring out of what I thought was the house!

It wasn't that bad, really. Dad, bless his soul....had lit up the propane range/oven on the front deck, but there was something in the oven that caught fire. He was in the process of putting it out with an extinguisher as I made my way over. Thank God.... I was about to panic!

Re: Food with Attitude!
Fires are scary. Glad all was well. We had a barn fire one winter. They thought maybe it was electrical. That old barn burned like it was made of tinder. Luckily no animals inside. It killed several big gorgeous pine trees in the yard and blistered the paint on our house. We had to evacuate and sit in an ambulance for a few hours (kids were teeny tiny and it was below zero). Luckily a snowplow driver saw the flames and called it in at 4 am...we wouldn't have seen it for a few hours otherwise and could have lost our house too.

Good night from here.

Not half as scary as when my brother lit the slash piles on the slope above our home, thinking he would help clean up.

It was a windy day..... I had just stepped out of the shower. The fire caught dead grass and was headed to the tree line and had just reached it. I sat on the couch and cringed for a few seconds, before I grabbed a shovel and the hose and ran up the hill. The water pressure was a trickle from the hose, because it was above the pressure line......

That was a nightmare!

Between myself, my dad and him, we got it out just in time....but there were hot spots we had to watch for the next several hours at the base of a few trees.

I won't tell you how much I cussed my brother out over that......heh.

It can get out of hand so fast. We had a nut case throw a fire bomb in the back door of the apartment. We were lucky, it didn't actually burn into our apt. They got it put out pretty fast.

It was nerve wracking to go pounding on doors as they wanted all 4 apts and the 4 across the street out of the building just in case. I swear, some people just didn't get it. If someone beats on your door yelling fire. Isn't it obvious that you need to get out? Just for clarification, no. 1doh1

Holy! We had a fellow try and burn down our Permaculture homestead because his beaten wife was seeking shelter. He covered the whole dry cedar deck and into the hallway with gasoline then lit a match and didn't succeed because my brother Robbie tackled him and the wanna-be arsonists last match burned out. It would have been a mess. Did I post the old shithole yet here? oops...looked it up, sold already 2692 Sunshine Coast Highway 101

This guy got out of prison and came after the neighbor who was his ex and his kids. Woody was awake and the guy was lucky enough to be down the road by the time he saw the fire. They got him and he went to jail for attempted murder.

Great to see this thread at the top of the page!

It's such an awesome thread Para. I wish I was cooking up beautiful meals and posting pics but for some reason I haven't been focused on cooking lately. Need to get back to it!

Just for a laugh, the one time I posted a pic of first time I cooked a pheasant, it wasn't even cooked, haha! I don't know why I did that instead of posting after when it looked so nice on the plate.

'not taking any time to read the thread I'm out shopping. The air quality here in Central Virginia is absolutely horrible. There is haze and you can't see very far I couldn't see from one side of a farm field to the other because of all the smoke. I had to turn around and go home and get eye drops and and albuterol inhaler so I could breathe.

They have a air quality alert here with impaired people supposed to stay inside with all the windows shut and closed and I need to do some shopping so I'm out I've been at food Lion and I got to have Walgreens then I got to hit Publix then I got to hit the ABC store then I got to hit Wawa then I need to hit Kroger then I can go home I have shopping with a plan in mind. And I drove all the way to Mechanicsville where there's all these different stores instead of just shopping by the food Lion near my house. So it's been a bunch of driving so far.

And oh my God it's hard to breathe. I'll check the thread when I get back home in a few hours.

Thanks Pool. FYI, like the last two homes I purchased we first rented in the area to see if it was suitable, one wasn't so we bought elsewhere. This home is rental and we definitely want to purchase a home out here in the wilderness now that we know we like it.

Mrs. failed to communicate to the landlord in California that the well pump was failed while she was on the phone with him this morning so he didn't know to call a plumber until now, seven hours later until my email to him. [Louis bangs head on wall]

He called me and we spoke going into detail and he said he will just have a contractor tear out the two bathrooms where the leak is and have the fixtures replaced and upgraded. He wants me to email pictures of the water damage and everything that needs replaced.

He already has an insurance claim and they will be out to assess the water damage. An HVAC / plumbing contractor just called and will be out tomorrow to evaluate what they need to replace.

We'll deal with turning the well pump on when we need water and off when not using it so we don't have the continual leak which is more like a major water spray from a hot water pipe.

Great pic! Why can you not eat a sub? Some places food sucks so I won't eat it, but I suspect this is for different reasons. Firehouse subs was inedible like that, I ordered an Italian sub and there was no pepperoni or Genoa salami on it, just baloney and some ham so sweet I tossed the sub in the trash at home after the first bite. There was nothing Italian about it.

I drive through miles and miles of this to reach my home a couple hundred feet into woods beside a cornfield. You can see some of the smoke in these first three pics. Everything in the distance should be green...

Re: Food with Attitude!
Ah we had a great time! But it's good to be home, showered with dinner heating in the oven. We're staying home tomorrow, supposed to be cleaning. I think we might just be laid up. Today was a lot!

Woody got a Philly cheese steak sandwich. I didn't want to get anything there because lunch meat usually has a ton of phosphate in it. I was good with a snack since I had eaten breakfast.

SIL did buy me a chocolate Dippin dots ice cream on the way out. I said no at first for the same reason, I don't know what's in it. He looked it up the ingredients for me and it was ok. You only get the little balls of ice ream in the first couple bites. Then it just all melts anyhow. It was good ice cream, but I wouldn't get it again for what it costs.

Lunch, ice cream, and random park pics.

We spent most of our time between the wave pool and the lazy river. My daughter, Baby and Woody went on the water slides. These are their landings. chuckle

I'm going to have a bag of Doritos. Processes, but it doesn't have phosphate in the ingredients so I'm gonna eat em!

Absolutely! Doritos are a perfect road trip food, blue or orange?

Orange always! I like the extra spicy ones sometimes with chip dip.

Awesome fun and pics.

Hhhhmmmm... now I must make an animated pic of my food cooking on the grill once we again have water.

I put my poor man's grill cover over it to keep rain off tonight: a contractor trash bag!

Lunch: Chicken salad and lettuce in a flour tortilla and fresh-cut watermelon.

I'll post it below Lance' adult-rated meal. My tortilla looks absolutely obscene and provocatively gesturing!
