Plump up raisins by pouring a little liquid in 'em in a measuring cup and putting them in the microwave or in a sauce pan on the stove.

What makes snickerdoodles good is a little cream of tartar.

If using butter, that cookie dough has to be rechilled in the fridge between batches that are baking or your dough will get too soft.

Get some old fashion oatmeal and grind it in the blender and add that to chocolate chip cookies.

Make pfeffernusse or springerlies as young people have often never had them. Both are delicious. Springerle are Swiss and German cookies. They get hard so that is a dippin' cookie for coffee, tea, or milk.

Some have never had a linzer cookie before. Do not omit the lemon zest. That meon, fruit, and shortbread contrast is what you are aiming for.

Chinese chewies are a "blondie" bar cookie that someone in rural reas in the 1920s might have made. They are seldom made, yet easy to make, and quite popular.

This time of year, nuts are on sale, and you almost can't make enough sugar pecans. It is something you out out for guests to nibble on. They will scarf up the whole container quick as a flash.

Lemon bars are extremely popular with the ladies and you could even add a contrast with a raspberry glaze.

Another recipe for the same cookie. This cookie seems to have multiple names, including: Russian Tea Cakes and Snowballs.

Yum!! What kind?

And here's a picture of our Halloween cut out cookies - I haven't done the Christmas ones yet because they are a kind that can get stale quickly.

If you are making homemade! I can make fry bread but don't have a tortilla press.

Growing up, my Norwegian grandmother made lefse, which was like a really soft tortilla made from mashed potato and flour, you spread them with butter and cinnamon sugar and roll them up.

Awww, now I miss those long ago Christmases.

That is super kind of you guys to say. I've been a single mom most of their lives and was really lucky to get awesome kiddos!

We usually have a huge old fashioned Christmas party with the whole neighborhood and friends from work...one year Seadog from GLP even came from Canada!

I have to go take the cookies out of the oven but will try to find some pictures of the spread to post via imgur.

Re: Anybody baking today?
Now I'm inspired - 7 layers for a cookie?

:rudyred:
 Quoting: ~Sloane~

They are a classic here..my German grandmother wrote the recipe on the inside of her 'Betty Crocker Cookie Cookbook' and called them 'Magic cookie bars'
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. graham cracker crumbs
1 c. chocolate chips
1 c. butterscotch chips
1 c. chopped nuts (we like walnuts, but pecans or other could work)
1 c. coconut (we use unsweetened flaked)
1 can sweetened condensed milk

turn the oven to 350, put the butter in a 9x13 baking pan and stick in oven til butter melts. Take the pan out and dump in graham cracker crumbs and stir into butter then pat down to make a crust layer. Sprinkle the chips, the nuts and the coconut evenly over the crust and then carefully pour the sweetened condensed milk over the entire pan and pop back into the oven to bake for 25 minutes. When they come out, let cool to room temperature and slice into bars.

So good to see you Sloane!
hugs

or frying..I'm going to be making rosettes later and they are fried cookies.

Any of my German/Austrian friends out there have a recipe for a holiday cookie that is ground almonds, a little chocolate, a little sugar, maybe an egg white and pressed into those little molds and turned out to bake on parchment paper? I made them with an Austrian friend one year and they were so yummy!

Mix in some shredded cheese and chives and a dash of onion or garlic powder for a good biscuit to go with tomato soup!

That's one of my kid's favorite winter lunches.
