The cash for clunkers used car government buyback program took almost all affordable cars off the mkt. I used to flip like 3 cars a year and go on vacation or buy extra things we wanted. You really can’t buy much for under 3k, and that’s for a major piece of crap. Super high milelage, no smog, etc. My sis was looking for something in the 6k range a few years back and that was my eye opener. Dented, over 200k miles, just ugly cars were available. She gave up the search and wound up financing and way overpaying for a used car from a lot. This!! ^^^ I totally agree. And not only that, but did they just scrap or destroy all those vintage cars (that they couldn’t track so easily)?! I love(d) older cars... When people ask what I have against Obama, “Cash for Clunkers” is one of the first things of which I make note! |

Also, truck/suv sales are through the roof because people are moving out of "certain States" and people are working from home long term so they turned in their gas sipping Prius cheese slices since they no longer need a gas efficient car... |

Not 100% sure of this but I think the 2006 Tacoma was covered under the bad frame recall where the metal used was poor and led to rust problems. They replaced the frames in the recall. It wasn't bad steel, any steel will rust when exposed to salt. What it was was the use of box frames with a lot of holes in them that allowed water and salt to get inside the frame, and the fact that with a full box frame the steel could be and was a lot thinner that with a "C" channel type frame. Now all of the manufacturers use the the full boxed frame for rigidity, but they also seal it up better and paint the INSIDE of the channel with corrosion resistant paint. I believe Toyota went to full galvanizing of their frames and passed the slavings on to us, because of the hit they took replacing millions of faulty frames when the US government forced them to. |
