Not 100% sure of this but I think the 2006 Tacoma was covered under the bad frame recall where the metal used was poor and led to rust problems. They replaced the frames in the recall. Really appreciate the info but mine was a 2000 year model. |

User ID: 63078896 United States 12/06/2020 11:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There were several news articles out as far back as 6 months ago. They were talking about the lack of available used cars. = The lack of inventory has sent used vehicle values and pricing up exponentially. The huge increase in pricing was being mainly attributed to: 1. Many, many more people have been working from home (for months now) that used to carpool or take public transportation to work. They now are home, the spouse or partner may be using their 1 vehicle and they now need a second (used vehicle). 2. Many, many people and families have been moving out (fleeing) of the metropolitan and city areas to the rural country areas, because of the "peaceful protests" (actually = the violent riots) taking place. Those people also used to rely on public transportation, and now need primary and secondary personal (used) vehicles. One of the articles also talked about how used car dealers were having a lot of difficulty getting inventory because of the lack of decent used vehicles. The auto-auction house bidding is just too high (the buyers purchasing for Others that they know that need a used vehicle are outbidding the dealers) I have seen this myself when driving by used dealers (they used to have packed out and sometimes over-flowing with many many used cars on their lots). Now they only have a handful. Last Edited by FireSteel on 12/06/2020 11:08 AM |

This is correct. Its not hyperinflation or some grand conspiracy. Prople are holding onto their cars. Think about it. People arent going anywhere so theres less wear and tear and fewer accidents. plus with the economy unpredictable, it is only logical people hold on to what they have for now. We need a new vehicle as our +10 year old Camry with 200k miles is needing replacement. We have two other vehicles, so were in no rush. The quantity of cars and the quality is junk, unless you buy new. No reason to panic, but prices are sticky and i dont theyll go down again now that they learned they can price like this and survive. |

I sympathize with increasing used car values, but lets not be hyperbolic. Hyperinflation would be used cars (and everything else) raising in price by multiples of thousands, millions, billions, or higher. And no, thats not exaggeration; research hyperinflation. Also, you can look at the current value of the dollar in the DXY on the stock market, and its value relative to other currencies in FOREX exchanges. You can also look at the current prices of inflation safe haven assets such as gold and silver. While the DXY is slowly declining in value relative to other currencies, its not the lowest its ever been, nor is gold/silver confirming any kind of uncontrolled acceleration in inflation, nor is any FOREX such as the EUR/USD (even though it is slowly rising due to a slow decline in dollar value in the past 2 months or so). |

Living in a dream User ID: 45381565 United States 12/06/2020 11:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No doubt about it OP I hadn't looked at cars for quite a few years, as mine was still running and had no problems. Until this year, when I decided after it hit 250,000 miles and I'd had it for 8 years I was getting something new. I tried to find trucks in my range, not going to happen. The prices were out of this world. I thought it was just because I hadn't been paying attention for many years, but apparently talking to some other people, this is a fairly recent thing. Prices have skyrocketed in the last 2 or 3 years I bought a used Jeep instead, and it still set me back way more than I'd have liked, but I got a vehicle now that will last at least another 10 years like my last one. In November 2018 my transmission went out on my Outback and I wanted a Takoma because I live in the mountains and need 4 x 4 for my driveway, plus I haul gardening/landscaping supplies, and I also need to take my trash to the dumpsters and I don't want that smell in the car. Well, I thought I could get a used one reasonably priced. Turned out that the good used ones with low miles (15-30K) were actually higher than the couple of new 2018s they had sitting on the lot with less than ten miles. Go figure. I bought new (although technically a year old model). |
