Blackcat66 User ID: 324471 United States 11/10/2007 01:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hi. I use a lot of essential oils (and carrier oils) and need different kind of glass bottles. I buy from New Directions Aromatic. If you want to check it out, it is on the web. Good prices, excellent service, and most importantly, the oils are authentic. I hope this helps. |

Really good oils so far and my cat is sleeping on the bubble wrap. A box from NDA could float across the Atlantic. Their glass packaging items are kind of expensive. They're fast, too. Last order took 3 days. Other AC - Yes, I guess so. You have my sympathies - might I suggest a hot cup of amanita tea for your beloved? (no, sorry, that's not nice) |

Her service is great. I got some essential oils there too, they are okay, very good prices, but I guess I am pretty sold on the quality of the oils at San Francisco Herb Co. [link to www.sfherb.com] That's a great company to do business with, top notch, highly recommended. Excellent oils & accessories. Those are my two best recommendations for someone starting out in this. I have ordered from a couple of other places but I like these two companies the best. |

My neighbor came over, he doesn't realize he's becoming my gunea pig. He thinks anything other than pine tar soap 'stinks' so when I come up with a blend he approves of, I'm in business. No, it's funny actually. Here's this big, gruff, cranky man sitting at my coffee table sniffing little bottles of oil, giving me his opinion of the fragrance. He's a hoot. |

If you are interested in the subject of essential oils and aromatherapy, I recommend Martin Watt's web site AromaMedical.com [link to www.aromamedical.com] you ought to go there and read all the archived articles, there is a lot of pertinent information about the worldwide trade in essential oils and about the technical aspects of aromatherapy. He is very serious about the subject and has set himself up as a bit of an industry watchdog and wants to clear the air about a lot of misinformation that is prevalent, he is very supportive of health freedom and wants people to use essential oils and learn about them, but wants them to be knowledgeable and to understand the big picture too of the worldwide industry that trades plant oils on a huge industrial scale. |

All of his products are off the charts for beautiful scent and potency. I had a little bottle of his damascene rose for YEARS and it never once lost its power or changed scent in any way. The sandalwood is sweet and mellow and light. Try one of the sampler packs to see what you really like...they last for years anyway. ps: I am not affiliated in any way with the website, just passing along the information. |

jeeze User ID: 326048 United States 11/13/2007 08:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Mild Strength Tea Tree Oil Can Lead to Antibiotic Resistance 2007/02/15 Repeated exposure to low doses of Tea Tree Oil, a common ingredient in many beauty products, can increase the chances of suffering from superbug infections, University of Ulster scientists have revealed. They discovered that exposure to low doses of Tea Tree Oil make pathogens such as MRSA, E. coli and Salmonella more resistant to antibiotics, and capable of causing more serious infections. Dr Ann McMahon and Professor David McDowell, members of the University's Food Microbiology Research Group, said: "We have been growing pathogens such as MRSA, E-coli and Salmonella in low concentrations of tea tree oil. These concentrations are not sufficient to kill the bacteria, but can switch on their defense mechanisms. Unfortunately, these defense mechanisms have the added effect of making bacteria more resistant to antibiotics, and able to cause harder to treat infections." Tea Tree Oil is used commercially in many products including shampoos, body lotions and toiletries, but there is no legislation requiring manufacturers to state the concentration of tea tree oil in these products. This increases the risks that people will use low concentrations of tea tree oil, which fail to kill bacteria, but increase their resistance to antibiotics. So, if a person uses tea tree oil products on their skin repeatedly, any MRSA on their skin could develop increased resistance to the antibiotics which are used to control MRSA infections. "The bottom line is that tea tree oil should not be used at low concentrations - less than 4% - to make sure that bacteria are killed, not just stressed. Otherwise we are arming the bacteria against treatment by antibiotics." Publishing their findings in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, the scientists said: "Although tea tree oil may be an effective antimicrobial agent when appropriately used at high (bactericidal) concentrations, its application at low (sub-lethal) concentrations may contribute to the development of antibiotic resistance in human pathogens". - User ID: 171895 United States 11/15/2007 09:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I read that the increased use of tea tree oil and lavender in baby bath products is causing hormonal changes in little boys, causing them to grow breasts. Little boys with boobs. Personally, I don't think it's the herbs. I think the manufacturers are using cheap plastic containers and the oils are leaching toxins out of the plastic, into the lotions. Essential oils degrade plastic. Oh yes - the FDA wants to put the lid on pau d'arco. They say it's dangerous and there's no proof it works. Don't be crazy - get a flu shot instead! Because I think so highly of the FDA, I just ordered a full pound of pau d'arco powdered bark. If the FDA shuns it, you know it's good. |
