UK Resident? Please answer a technical question for me.
I need to deploy a number in the UK for a special use project. What I am curious about are your standard calling and billing practices the the UK zone.

For example, if someone in LONDON wishes to place a call to KETTERING, ENGLAND or GILLINGHAM, ENGLAND or LEEDS, ENGLAND
would this be considered what is called in the US as a "Local Call"? My destination numbers would be "Local landline" and not considered "Mobile Numbers".

I want to pick a location best for rolling out this telephone number so that it can be reached from the greatest number of places inside the UK without being considered a Toll or Long Distance type call.

I could research this the old school way but it is certainly way easier to ask here as I know there are a number of you that live in the UK.

Any help and insight will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Mainland UK is a local call known as landline, as its to a house or property. Flat rate. Cheaper to call landline to landline.

Call companies in the UK have various plans, some have fixed rate all the time, some offer free landkine to landline minutes if you're with the same company. Others offer free evening and weekend calls.

Also each county and town has its own area code of 5 digits then a unique 6 digit number. All considered landlines attached to properties, or local calls.

Its the 0800 or 0845 numbers that charge, from mobiles, some a free from landlines.

I appreciate the info.

Calls cost me more to terminate from the US to a UK Mobile Phone than a UK landline. Some mobiles (premium) are quite a bit more costly. I just wanted to make sure that from landline to landline it was a countrywide type of thing and you have confirmed. My inbound calls there will be the same cost regardless of who is calling.

Thanks again.

Re: UK Resident? Please answer a technical question for me.
if you have a mobile phone in the uk depedning on carrier (o2, vodafone, three, ee, etc) a bundle of minutes for calls (including unlimited minutes) can be had for quite cheaply and will last for one month until you top up/add a bundle again. this is for payg - pay as you go. on contract pjhones often have unlimited minutes included in the monthly price.

cost per month maybe 10-30 pounds not including the phone.

unlimited minutes allows you to call any landline or mobile number in the uk as much as you want because its unlimited.

some numbers are not included in this unlimited plan like those that start 0845 or 0870, there are some others i cant think of also premium numbers are not included.

Look into 0345 numbers. That's a nationwide local calling service. In the UK, even local numbers are paid for, though most plans give you them for free. 0345 numbers count as locals for the whole country rather than just a geographic area.

My UK telephone company offers free daytime/evening and weekend calls. £6 per month to ring abroad. All tied in with your internet per month usually.Around £40 per month for the lot.
A lot of people, not I,don't watch TV, have TV in with this as well.

Re: UK Resident? Please answer a technical question for me.
From abroad it would be just numbers starting 01 or 02, the 03 and 08 numbers are not landlines they just translate to a real 01 or 02 landline number.

Or at least that is what it was when I had 08 numbers, described as non-geographic back then.
