Knowing there is now completely toothless prosecution backing them, do you really think that Oregon Law Enforcement is going to bother arresting drug offenders?

Not likely

The tent city population is going to explode

Theft crimes will be rampant

GET OUT OF OREGON PRONTO!!!!

Oregon itself is nice. LOTS of rural communities and farm towns. I’m speaking mainly on the I5 big cities. Portland, Eugene, Salem, Medford. Well Medford was always kind of blegh.

I know Oregon well

It;s a statewide decision, so even smaller towsn that struggle with drug problems such as Coos Bay are going to be overwhelmed

Eastern Oregon BLM land and parks will be filled with methlab RVs way out in the woods

It's just not good for the entire state

I live in Eastern WA so 'when' the shitstains in Olympia force this through for us I may jump over the border to Idaho where it will never happen, and frontier justice is still a thing....

I’m more confused why you’re roping in marijuana, which is already legal in Oregon and Washington, with heroin/meth. Than why a dealer would waste enough heroin on an ounce of weed, instead of just selling it outright which would net him more than that ounce did.

You don’t make sense
 Quoting: Rorschach Watchmen

MJ is illegal for sale in the UK.

They remove the THC with butane. sell the BHO, then lace the weed that's left over with heroin to make it addictive.

the legalization of MJ in the USA has made this practice impossible

THE SAME APPLIES TO ALL DRUGS.

It made my mind go back to when England shipped opium into China to get the citizens hooked and it decimated them.

Just decriminalize and destroy America's youth because this will do it.

OUT FUCKING STANDING!!!

Not only does it reduce the scope of gov but it give individual freedoms back. The Constitution was never intended to control your life to that extent.

In fact maybe all drugs seized in states that it's still illegal should go to Oregon and handed out free of charge.

The only long term downside that I see is A)whether to provide medical services to ODs.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75926151

medical services have been in place and paid for by the non users as usual, how about all the property crime that always comes with all the junkies?? crime will jump 1000%

Better than for profit jails that are a revolving door. Help these people instead of criminalize them.

Fair enough. We have a problem here with homelessness/teens/drugs..we kinda always have. Getting arrested gets expensive real quick and can doom people to the crushing cycle of poverty, and with a rapsheet, be impossible to get out from under.

We all make dumb choices when we were teenagers..the long time addicts dont see jail as a deterent.

I hope it works. We'll know in 3 years or so if it was a good choice or bad choice..or maybe a mix of the two.

We can disagree and still be friends here.

Decriminalizing is not legalizing.

People who are caught with hard drugs have the choice to pay a fine or go to treatment. Not jail for possession.

It's literally in the second sentence below the headline.

Instead of going to trial and facing possible jail time, a person would have the option of paying a $100 fine or attending new 'addiction recovery centers'.

Incoming surge of murders, od's, and car crashes. The effort of obtaining hard drugs has been minimized so those curious about drugs will try them when they would not of due to societal pressure. It is a big mix of soft liberals, homeless people, kids, criminals, and hard drugs all shook up in a shake and bake recipe for disaster.
