Re: Rock and Rule (1983, 1987) / an obscure post-apocalyptic animated rock & roll film!
Rock & Rule was inspired by Nelvana's earlier TV special from 1978, The Devil and Daniel Mouse. Its distributor, MGM, acquired United Artists at the time and the new management team had no interest in it. As a result, it was never released in North America except for a limited release in Boston. It received minor attention in Germany, where it was screened at a film festival. It was funded in part by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, which had obtained the Canadian TV rights. A hard-to-find VHS was released at that time, followed by a laserdisc release. The film developed a cult following from repeated airings on HBO and Showtime and the circulation of bootleg VHS copies at comic book convention booths.

I believe that's a Don Bluth movie, the guy who did Ftitz the Cat and other notable u.g. animation. As I recall he did the animated (never really and properly finished) Lord of the Rings movie from the 80s, the one that ends as the group meets the Balrog. Until Peter Jackson's version it was the only thing close to a decent interpretation of the LOTR books. Also he did the 80s videodisc 'games' Dragon's Lair and Space Ace.

Oh man scratch that, I'm getting Don Bluth and Ralph Bakshi all jumbled up in one purple haze.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79295128

Yeah. Thats Ralph Bakshi. He also did American Pop. And Fritz the Cat & Wizards

Great stuff.

Thanks for the link to this too, Makes me wish I kept all my old Heavy Metal Comics

I think the charcter of Jeremiah is loosely based on MOK. The fact is was made is 1983 reaffirms the idea that this played a role in the inspiration behinrd the film Mandy.

That opening moon reveal was slick.
The bezelbob at 18:48 was incredible.
Noticed Jim Henson was listed as a voice.
Enjoyed - thanks.
