If I remember correctly some eyewitnesses (i.e allied bomber pilots) reported seeing humanoids piloting these craft. It may be that they were indeed German, man-made craft, but they came too late and too few in the war to make a difference (very much like the advanced ME-262). The technology was then either lost, deliberately destroyed as the allies converged on Germany, or handed over to the Americans as part of Project Paper clip. The latter is interesting considering the Roswell incident a few years later that may have been a result of a crash of a German 'saucer'.
