Quoting: MeowMix People have spent thousands of dollars on these foods. They might be able to use half of them, maybe more, maybe less. A lot of the people buying storable food right now are looking at possible supply chain disruptions and the fallout from the approaching election. They aren't even THINKING 5 years, 10 years, down the road. Surely this food will last a year or two. Most people can't even AFFORD to buy years worth of this shit, and would probably commit suicide if they were forced to LIVE on this shit for a year or more ANYWAY. So store a lot of varieties of dried rice, dried beans, spices, sprouting seeds, canned goods, vacuum sealed nuts and seeds, vitamins, green powders (like Amazing Grass), Beyond Tangy Tangerine, and WATER. Lots and lots of GOOD water. And the means to filter much more, like a Sawyer "Point Zero Two" for biologicals, and a Propur (or Berkey) for chemicals. Run it through BOTH filers, starting with the Sawyer. But so that you don't even need to filter water right away, you should be picking up some good Spring Water every time you are out shopping, and have a nice dark place to store it. Good quality drinking water will be the MOST important thing you can have when the SHTF. You can't live long (or well) dehydrated. It's very important to have a means of getting adequate bio-available minerals, especially if your food supply is limited. Get yourself some "Beyond Tangy Tangerine" (I like the 2.0 version). It's very expensive, but will be like GOLD when you need to fill gaps in your nutrition, when food is scarce. If you buy it at least a 6 pack at a time, you can get it for $50 a canister. It's basically an excellent "cover-all-bases" supplement to ensure you get all the vitamins, minerals, probiotics, enzymes, etc... that you need, if you are eating a limited diet. |

You are in for a monumental surprise when you are forced to realize that the "secret rapture" (AKA "pre-trib") rapture is a doctrine of demons. It was designed to do EXACTLY what it has done to you. However, this fairytale that requires so many biblical gymnastics to actually believe, made Tim LaHaye, Hal Lindsey, and Jack Van Impe, fabulously wealthy. Most people who bought the pre-trib "rapture" will end up cursing God when they realize that they aren't going ANYWHERE while all hell is breaking loose, and they will accept the Mark, because they failed to prepare their mind, body, and spirit for what they must endure. The nice thing about trying to wake people up from this end-times delusion, is that they don't NEED to take my word for it. They can continue to spout off how they are leaving and how they won't be here... AS they remain here. Sadly, it will take a LOT for them to finally admit they've been had, and most of them won't. |

Dehydrated foods are better than freeze dried it seams You take all water out of meat and veggies and store them seperate, you can vacuum seal them for bonus longevity, so if you have something that is submerged in liquids their shelf life is lowered, if you have mixed veggies and meat, shelf life is also lowered, so if you plan to make amends then make a product that you dry your self, suck all water out for startes and dont go the freeze dried way. Nut producing trees alone would provide all of the bread making flour you could possibly want. They are in abundance here in the northeastern United States. The same goes for seasonal vegetables. You can find asparagus, chickory, mushrooms, onions, cattails and a good selection of many other plants. As for food, fishing takes little-to-no calories. As long as you're near bodies of water, you've got a food source. Of course, when it hits the fan, and it will, the best preparation you can have is a relationship with Jesus. If you don't, no amount of prepping is going to do you much good. We're fast approaching the end of time. You think you don't recognize things in 2020, wait. Get right with God, repent and obey His law. As for long-term freeze-dried foods, Harmony House Foods is one of my favorites. Their soup mixes are great. I've used them for backpacking/camping excursions for years. They sell their fruits, veggies and meat substitutes in dried form, so you can buy the types you want and then make meals from them. |

What all did they store, how did they store it and how much did they store to save so many people? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67789290 I'm a good Catholic. Joseph interpreted the Pharaoh's dream. There would be 7 excellent harvests then 7 years of drought. So Pharaoh had food stored during the good years. I think it was mostly grains and Egypt grew wheat mostly. They stored things off the ground in a mud brick thing I have no idea what is called. Its about ten feet by ten feet by ten feet high. He would have had row after row of these things. They ate a lot of bread back then. They had real bread then. Not the shit we call bread today. I did an experiment with commercial bread lately. Evidently it lasts indefinitely now. I kept it 4 months past expiration AND THE SHIT DIDNT MOLD. The last month I left the bag open...still no mold. Tortillas, same same. Havn't eaten store-bought bread since. I got Sara Lee Artisan bread, it's good bread and molds a couple days after the best buy date. But I don't eat much bread. |

Bags of Thai Jasmine Rice, and all kinds of Goya dried beans last damn near forever. I make all of my own storable foods. Mason jars become MRE type containers. All of the dried ingredients are put in them, along with the seasonings for the recipe. Close the lid, store it, walk away. All you need is the appropriate ratio of water to cook them. My method proves way cheaper than going to these companies. The only big difference is that the companies provide convenience and time saving. darylandcat.com |

They will not get soft even after soaking and cooking for days. Learn how to cook. First soak the beans. The quickie soak isn't very useful for OLD beans, so soak them overnight, 12 hours at least. Then, if you have reason to think they are going to be tough, bring them to a boil, turn off the heat, [and add] 3/8 teaspoon of baking soda per 3 cups of water (and 3 cups of water per cup of beans). [Pour out the water, rinse the beans repeatedly, and cover with new water.] Then boil them as usual. IF they are still too much al dente, then pull them out, and pressure-cook them (put some of the spices, except salt) [...] Could be 15 minutes more, 30 minutes, or even an hour. Eventually you get soft, even tasty, beans. Honest! CROW Time is too long. Space is too big. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 79397907 United States 09/20/2020 09:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sorry to be off topic OP, but this issue of old beans needs to be answered or people will end up with unexpected food shortages in times of need. Baking soda will not work for very old beans, it helps with slightly older beans up to 3 or 4 years. 10 year old beans You need to soak them in salt water to soften the skins enough to remove or puncture the skin, them soak again in clear water, grind and simmer with a little baking soda, no salt, changing the water often but they will never get soft and creamy, like younger beans. You could also grind them fine like flour and add to bread etc or try to sprout them. I have had success at sprouting 10 year old beans as the only means to get them edible, other than hand grinding them. I am old and have had a lot of experience, You will have a very hard time eating and cooking old beans, do not let anyone fool you into thinking they last forever or that any good cook can make them edible.. Some people are in for a hard wake up call from being fed false information. |

Mind you, I have been stashing food for about 10 years. I have foods from several different companies. Quoting: MeowMix As a side note let me just throw this in their real quick: I had a three month supply from a company that I received about seven or eight years ago and it had been stashed under my bed. I threw it out. One more sidenote: I used to work for one of the major storable food companies. I used to sell this stuff to customers. Now I feel like I have jilted them. So back to what I was saying, as I began clearing out things I started selling and throwing things out. What really struck me is how much of the food had actually gone "bad". Almost all of the foods from EFoods and My Patriot Supply were bad. What I mean by bad? Let me explain: Upon opening the bag the contents were a bit discolored. Well maybe that's part of the natural aging process and they're still actually edible, so I go to prepare them. Potato soup is gross. Cheesy broccoli and rice, gross. Granola, rancid. Cheesy potato soup was tolerable. Creamy chicken and rice, let's not go there. Tasted like ass. . I mean you can still live on the stuff I guess, but is this really what peole paid for? Weren't we told that these foods would keep for 25 years? I'm calling BS. I mean after all their dehydrated freeze-dried so they're supposed to retain their viability right? I'm going to go dig some more and experiment some more and document some more. I really believed in the products that I was selling to customers. I swear to God I hope that this is not common because if it is I have this crap on my conscience. Please check your own stash, or if you already have and have found out that your foods suck and you had to throw them away or get rid of them, respond and let me know. The companies that I have foods from are: EFoods My Patriot Supply ( think they changed the foods from Patriot Pantry to Ready Hour or something like that.) Wise, who I think is now under Readywise. Emergency Essentials. Food4Patriots Auguson Farms Stick to Mountain house freeze dried foods, they are a long standing company and have been tested by independent labs. They have been proven to be topnotch. I have mountain house and have opened old cans and have been very satisfied. Most of the companys out there are just there to suck money out of preppers. They jumped on the prepper movement as a way to make a buck. |
