The Santa Ana winds we were expecting seem to have been very mild. I never felt them yesterday myself.

Being new to San Diego though, you will feel them eventually. chuckle

I think our firefighters have done an amazing job on this fire, that and all the air power we were able to use.

Sounds like you guys get some added air support today.

I don't know which VLAT will be flying overhead yet, but you will get at least one today.

You may have to share Global Supertanker (747) GST944 with the Bobcat fire though. That one is getting very close to large neighborhoods on one side, and JPL Telescopes on another side. I'm guessing they will leave GST open to be called to the most urgent situation, and you may see a 10-Tanker (DC-10).

Stay safe! If they tell you to leave - please do it! We used to live out in Alpine (when I was a kid,) so I know what it's like. We went through one fire that cut off our only road in or out (Via Palo Verde Lago.) That was a bit scary. The fire didn't get in down near the lake, so we were ok. It got a little past the lake clubhouse. There weren't near as many homes out there back then.

We moved after that experience though, and I've never lived in a one road in-and-out home again.

Thank you :)

I think Bobcat needs them more than we do at this point. Hopefully conditions allow for that!!

We would love to go and watch the drops, but we don't want to be in the way. In years past we've donated many things to fire crews at Gillespie Field or up in Laguna/Alpine. This year there are many restrictions on donations due to covid.

Alpine is beautiful, I woudlnt be comfortable with one way in and out either though.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY 7:22 pm

Valley Fire Update: Evacuation Orders Reduced to Warnings for Some Valley Fire Areas

Evacuation orders have been lowered to evacuation warnings in some portions of the Valley Fire areas.

The areas affected are Corte Madera Ranch; Barrett Dam; all areas accessible from Lawson Valley Road to the east with the exception of Forest Park Road; and the north side of Japatul Road between Sycuan Truck Trail and Hidden Glen Road.

People who have evacuated may return to those areas with proof of residency. The Cleveland National Forest will remain closed under an Emergency Forest Closure Order (as described in Regional Order No. 20-07) to protect natural resources and provide for the safety of the public and firefighters. The Cleveland National Forest closure will remain in effect until conditions improve enough for visitors to the national forest can recreate safely.

An Evacuation Order means there is an immediate threat and people should leave the affected area immediately.

An Evacuation Warning is issued when the threat is plausible for fire activity to increase, and your residence may be in the affected area.

People should be aware that there may be traffic-flow interruptions due to fire crews and utility workers still operating in the area.

Residents in the areas affected by the Valley Fire can call 2-1-1 for non-emergency fire information such as Evacuation Orders, shelters and road closures.

The Santa Anna winds fizzled out quickly and didn't cause any new major fire problems, but it did lower the humidity a little. A lot less smoke from the Valley fire, but with winds coming from the north, it's bringing down smoke from other fires near LA to keep the skies nice and hazy to block the sun. It's staying aloft and not creating any ash fallout.

I checked FR24 and the cams a few times today and it didn't seem like there was a major escalation as was expected.

Thank God the winds weren't as forecast!

Looked like those choppers were all over it!

They really did an amazing job on this, the air power we had was incredible. The hard work by the crews. (I still wave at firemen when they drive by, like a kid. lol)

I do think all of that retardant caused the neon pink sun we had for a couple days. Breathtakingly horrific really. We lucked out with the winds too.

Thank you for your thread input. hugs

Good news!

If something else kicks up, Del Mar Fairgrounds will be available very soon - probably this weekend. Del Mar is the safest (and largest) facility for large animal evacs in all of San Diego County.

All Thoroughbreds are moving out after racing finished last Monday.

I'm sure most of the barns are already empty, but they all need to be stripped and cleaned. That can be done quickly though.

Glad things are going the right way for you guys. Be safe.

Thank you! I feel so blessed this time.

Tis the season, almost. But I hope nothing else kicks off!

It was very strange missing the races this year.

I feel awful for those in the north, all the way up the coast. Oregon particularly. wow..

I will post if any new fires break out though.
