In Norway it is even higher. I pay around 35% in income tax and 24% VAT on everything I buy. In addition to this there are extra taxes on products that are unhealthy, like sugar, tobacco and alchohol, or bad for the nature, like petrol and dieasel. Summed up, the tax level in Norway is probably close to 70%.

If you make $200k/year or more then less overall goes to tax.

The sweet spot is between $300k - $350k per year. Any more or less than that range and you end up paying more overall.

Both Canada and Norway have a quality of life unmatched in the world. You also have much cleaner cities and the esthetics of the countries are more controlled and therefore much more beautiful. I imagine most of Europe is the same in particular Switzerland.

I paid 5 dollars a gallon for gas in Norway in 2002. I dove a Volvo, and parked in a Free lot in downtown Oslo 1 block from the Bristol hotel where I stayed. It was worth every penny and more. A shrimp sandwich was 12 dollars, coffee 5 dollars. SO good!

This isn't true at all. I grew up Canadian and have since moved to the US. The tax rate is about 25%, which is similar to the US when you are self-employed.

That is around the same, and maybe less than the average American pays in federal taxes, state income taxes, state sales taxes, property taxes, phone and internet taxes, etc.

You don't have it near as bad as you think.
