Anonymous Coward User ID: 76669091 United States 09/01/2020 09:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In a war with China our carriers will mostly be kept far away. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76669091 Expect our carriers to hang out in the Indian ocean and South of the Philippines interdicting shipping. Also expect them to be sailing west of Hawaii. The carriers are too valuable to risk against a well prepared, unreduced China anywhere within a thousand miles of her coast. But one day during the war, at the most opportune moment the carrier groups will arrive in the South China Sea. And on that day their planes and missiles will strike at a thousand targets. A carrier is a lot to risk, and delivers a powerful blow. Much like a hard right hook to a boxer. It's a punch that opens you up to danger, but that can also end the fight. A boxer doesn't start out with hard right hooks. He nabs and jukes, wears his opponent down, gets to know him, and when the time is right he risks that right hook. Projecting much? Naw, I just happen to be a knowledgeable source on these matters. |

They are authoritilative and constantly updated. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66294770 [link to www.everycrsreport.com (secure)] There are some older think tank ones. I was looking at one about six months ago. Many times more is not better if they are inferior. At issue is the replacement rate as ships would be sunk and by what means and keeping up with the maintenance schedule. The maintenance thing is key. The Soviet Union had an insane number of tanks, but less than half of them actually ran. Blue Horseshoe loves GLP |

They also count used and badly outdated craft which are hardly any tangible threat to the modernized U.S. Fleet. Quoting: Chaz Aldrin A few hundred speed boats with guys holding RPG's is added to these numbers. Again yes they do have numbers but it really just makes for a nice target rich environment when it's weapons FREE-- time Not to say they don't have some nice new specialty craft that deserve attention-- Rest assured those craft are on a constant watch list. They do have a dozen or so very nice destroyers and an extensive submarine fleet. Their missiles are good too. They still can't go toe to toe with the US in blue water. But within a thousand miles of China they are absolutely capable of defeating a US fleet. In that locale their navy can exploit the cover of land based missiles, strike planes, reconnaissance planes, and sea based sensors. They are good enough in that geographical locale that disposition, sheer luck, and happenstance will probably be determining factors. The US simply can't charge in guns blazing. That's actually what China would prefer. They want a quick war. The US admirals would likely prefer a slowly tightening noose, starting with a long range blockade and denial of blue waters to China. China will invade Japan next. It would be more Taiwan than Japan... I'd expect the next move would be for the US to install offensive weapons in Japan and deem them for defensive purposes... Remember, Abe just stepped out of office. The next leader will be more aggressive towards China... |

We would lose a war with China, badly. We could nuke them but then the world would turn on us after the Chinese nuked us. We can't win. Thats what most of you are missing. The US HAS NOT won a war since WW and in my opinion we lost that one BIGLY because we fought for our enemy. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 76669091 United States 09/01/2020 09:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The US navy has squandered several advantages over the last few decades. The unrefueled strike range of our carrier based planes has shrunk by half. F14s could fly out 900 miles. F18s less than 500. F35s less than 600. The A6 intruder could strike a thousand miles from the carrier. The aborted attempt at a next generation destroyer program was a huge boondoggle and has resulted in new procurements of older, though still very good, Arleigh burke destroyers. The US navy refuses to employ diesel submarines, which cost half as much as our nuclear attack subs and are now so quieter as to be virtually invisible. The reasoning being that our global navy can't effectively use subs with such limited range and endurance. However, a squadron of such subs stationed in the western pacific would be worthwhile. |

Pop superiority is kinda alpha. They are behind tech-wise but who knows what kind of strategies they can come up with? Swarming with cheap units might work since they have the pop to afford it. Like how many treats a battleship can repel and send 10 times more. One way to compete with that would be to get drones with AI, like one billion of them. My take on it is that China is building it's fleet to play a bigger role in the world's affair. They won't have to go to war with the US, they just have to develop and they will eclipse America in no time. China has a dictator and long term plans vs the circus going on in the US. They're like the rest of the world, they know the USA are boiling and might crumble. They want to be the next big thing. Not that I like it one bit but if you're selling out to China, the US Navy can't do shit about it. |
