The COVID situation is looking more and more like it's been used to take the safety off, in preparation for pulling the trigger of World War. Once a couple big ones kick off, it will give the smaller bullies and antagonists license to start swinging.

World Wars are caused by severe economic problems. It washes away a lot of useless old problems, decreases populations, and creates new economies around the needs of warring nations.

World War 2 made the American Automobile industry. The car companies were struggling, trying to survive the Depression, and along comes a war! I grew up in a town built around a division of GM that made components for their cars. During the war, the factory, so hard hit by the economic situation of the 30s, started making sub-machine guns for the Army. Employees were brought back, the company survived and then thrived post-war.

Now, the town is back to where it was in the late 20s and 30s. Don't know they can make anything that will need making in this war, so there's no guarantee they will survive. Some towns and cities will have nothing to offer but the young people the military will put into uniforms.
