Senior Forum Moderator  08/19/2020 11:41 AM  Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am gonna catch hell for this, but, during the August 21, 2017 eclipse everyone I know here in Louisiana that used a welders mask to take pictures of the eclipse all captured an object near the sun that was in an eclipse as well. That's why you can see the eclipse occurring in the second object, it's just a reflection of the sun. That's actually fantastic proof of how filter flares work.  |

The more obvious, prominent flares are from outer elements in the lens. The one closer to the sun is on an inner element. As he moves the lens to show how the flares move, this inner flare moves as well, just not as much, which you'd expect for an inner element flare. Source: I was a lens technician for 7 years. |

You can always private message me if you want my input on anything. Just don't do it this way because here's the deal, I'm not the only mod here and if another mod rules a post or a thread as a callout it can lead to misunderstandings because people will assume I was the one that removed it even if I wasn't on at the time. I get that you just legitimately wanted my input on this video, you weren't trying to bait me into a trap thread, but please do it through private messages next time so that nobodies panties get in a wad if a post gets removed.  |
