Which direction in the sky should I be looking?

From what I read, it doesn't matter really. You should be able to see it across the entire sky.

Re: Don't forget the Perseid Meteor shower TONIGHT!
We do this every year for the past 6 years.

Last year saw a really cool fireball with a persistent train that lingered about 5 seconds before it fully faded. That was a first for us.

But this year it’s too cloudy above us. We went out at 11 CST and couldn’t even see stars.

We’re going to try again tomorrow night.

It was pretty good here for awhile, I probably caught about 10-15 and then it went cloudy :(

Re: Don't forget the Perseid Meteor shower TONIGHT!
Did anyone else experience lightning like sky flashes this evening? My buddy and I were both observing some 400 miles apart. Both he and I have independently observed very quick flashes of light that lit the sky much like lightning would, but not a cloud in sight. I can only assume there were some extra bright meteors outside of our fields of view? I’ve seen meteors light up the sky before, but never so much like a single frame. Much like a subliminal message maybe? MKultra brought from the skies? I kid, but it was curious.

Yes, but it started to get cloudy - assuming it was actual lightning in the distance.

I had an excellent view of the sky and was DISAPPOINTED. Yeah, saw a few. A couple of great ones. Other than that the Perseid meteor shower 2020 was a bust. Anyone else?

I would agree. Wasn’t nearly as good this year as it was 2 years ago. I had my back to a Perseid fireball 2 years ago that left my shadow on the ground. When I turned around I saw the trail of dust it left behind that took 12-15 secs to disappear.

I didn't see much either, Pacific Northwest is cloudy on a good day. I did however, spend a nice evening outside 'till the wee hours. I had a marvelous time! Been a lot of years since I camped out in the back yard! So thank you for this thread. I had fun here and afterwards! Lol
